The focusing screen is now my "always-on": Although I use still the autofocus, but you can already look fabulous as the blur looks at high-speed lenses. A buddy said recently while looking through the viewfinder "That's cool, because you can see already this" Bokeh stuff "". He's right ;-)
Although I have now not a direct comparison to normal matte screen, but I find the EG-S just super! :)
OLD REVIEW:
The focusing screen makes the focal plane clearly visible, but not as strong as you'd might expect before buying.
For lenses with aperture f4 it becomes a little darker, but it shows only at dusk. On the day it does not bother.
A big difference can be seen in greater than F2.8 lenses with aperture. There the viewfinder at F1.4 is MUCH brighter than F2.8 (the difference in brightness can not be seen in normal focusing screens, because from 2.8, the viewfinder will not light ...).
