The genre - CIA, al Qaeda ... - you have to have love, otherwise you will not bite on. I am glad that I have seen the first episode to the end, because I was not quite convinced initially (Just returned from The Walking Dead - is just something completely different). What quickly became clear to me was that in this series, the actor's performance is on a very high level. Up front Claire Danes, which really has it and when you clearly recognize where it comes high. Closely followed by Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin, who am also very convincing. Actually, there is in the main occupation no outliers downwards. In other series have been "pulling the cart" 1-2 good people front of it and then they have to. Even with very good series there are unfortunately consequences that you could have saved. Not so with the first season of Homeland, where everything fits and each episode has its dramaturgy and tension. I hope that it continues in Season 2 at the same level.
