Françoise Rachmuhl the adapter, states in its introduction the reasons for its choices and its desire to simplify mythological references.
We can also read in the introduction, a biography of Ovid and a brief explanation of the original text including 230 stories of metamorphoses.
She chose the metamorphoses remained the most famous, such as Deucalion and Pyrrha, Pygmalion, Midas, Orpheus, Medea, Perseus ...
At the end of the book we find an index of names of gods and mythological figures.
This is the beginning of "Metamorphoses Io" which you can read in this book:
"The nymph Io had disparu.Elle was the beloved daughter of Inachus River, which flows in Greece, Argolis.
Io had suddenly disappeared and her father sought partout.Où was she gone? Was she even alive? "
It is now the beginning of the translation made by George Lafaye (in the classic folio collection):
"It is in the Haemonia a grove that locks on all sides a steep forest; we Tempe called the middle, the Peneus, out of Pindos feet, rolls its foaming waters;. Where a fall abyss their mass it raises clouds of light vapors, which fall as rain on the trees and, well beyond its neighborhood, he tired of their air crash. "

As for me the first version seems much more attractive, although it is less faithful to the original text. Translations of Ovid are terrible because the sentences are often very long, at the limit of good French and topographic or mythological references almost indigestible. Françoise Rachmuhl managed to take up the difficult challenge to propose a text faithful to the original story and a clear French.
However, I regret that this collection is now exhausted and that we might, if we still want to approach it for himself, in the classroom or for our children, to find the text in another edition. Why not keep the same work when it works well?
