The adapter is used with me on a Dell Latitude, boils Plug & Play. Speed is just SATA accordingly, so that the solution finally is useful for backups. Thanks to the power supply via the eSATAp interface, the part can also go very well use the service call and does not occupy any of the few USB ports.
- MUST -
The negative reviews all point to a lack of information before buying. It is necessarily a eSATAp connector required (not only eSATA), otherwise the strictly necessary power supply can not be realized. You can recognize these jacks usually because they are labeled with a symbol of both eSATA and a USB. The USB connector in such a combo jack is then only responsible for the power supply, while the data on the fast SATA interface are transmitted.
If one has found such a combo jack on the PC, there are still important to note that there are those in two versions: with and without 12V voltage. Most times (especially at notebooks) missing the 12V supply. This means that you can indeed "can connect hard drives, but not the large 3.5" because the small 2.5 drives.
One should therefore check before buying one if the respective PC met at all the conditions for the use of this adapter. If you have done, I can only recommend buying!
