From a hardware standpoint, my comment concerns the paperbacks. The book is rather well made, we are entitled to some illustrations, some in color.
In terms of content, notice the quality work of C. Tolkien, who brings preface and appendices. The translation is good, we can only regret, however, some shells, which is a shame without being ashamed or alarming. As others have noted, the story told here already been already in other works.
Finally, the literary quality. Here we have a Tolkien book that fits into his "legendary", his "mythology." The introduction also reintroduced the story in the timeline and the Universe of Tolkien thus not be too lost in the plethora of names and events! The style is sometimes somewhat prosaic, but reading remains very pleasant.
Book advise but not to buy on a whim! This is not the style of Lord of the Rings, reading can be difficult and sometimes heavy (blame some do already LotR), however I highly recommend.
In short, I liked!
