Metabones provides the adapter without aperture setting for Nikon lenses with an aperture ring, the adapter with aperture setting for Nikon G lenses (and all other Nikon lenses), and the adapter with aperture setting and focal length shortening optics, for all full-frame and FX lenses is thought that then have roughly the printed on the lens focal length to the APS-C X-Fuji camera. It seems to me this clarification necessary because these facts do not emerge often from the description of the adapter.
The adapter (here: G to X without optics) is supplied in a plastic box in which it is firmly housed; a Fuji X Objektivrückdeckel or a Nikon-housing cover for closing its two-sided openings is not supplied, but is advisable to purchase, because the bulky box you will certainly not want to plug in the camera bag. The adapter is a neat and difficult processed all metal unit of 170g weight. Underneath a tripod socket is screwed, which itself weighs 22g. In front the Nikon lens is attached, then the adapter screwed into the X-bayonet. At removal, the reverse sequence of connections is recommended. Both bayonets go quite tight, but no violence must be taken; the resistance is mE still within the tolerance range. I use the adapter with smaller lenses, namely the AF Nikkor 2.8 / 10.5 DX Fisheye, 2.8 / 60D Micro and 1.8 / 50G. Heavier and larger lenses I do not use it because those lenses are still in a considerable disproportion to the petite and lightweight Fuji X camera housings.
Taking Camera + adapter + lens in the hand (left hand below the lens), disturbs the pretty square tripod adapter. Since I am not a friend stand in any case, I immediately (not included) him with a small Allen wrench unscrewed. It is fastened with 2 Allen screws and 2 metal dowels. After removal are accordingly 4 holes in the bottom of the adapter. Plastic caps for their closure are unfortunately not included. I have therefore the "perforated plate" taped with black adhesive tape to prevent dust and dirt from entering. Not beautiful, but broken. Now the unit is composed of camera adapter and lens tired in the hand.
Typical of this G-adapter is an "aperture ring" on the adapter by means of which the panel of the G-lens can be adjusted. This Metabone has a well operated Blendeneinstellmöglichkeit. Here there is a rotational path of over 3 cm; so that set aperture can not exactly but estimated about. The ring also moves smoothly (without notches) and has the right resistance.
My DX Fisheye remains a fisheye that 60 Micro is for 90 with the possibility of direct aperture setting on the lens (better hand only to Scale: 2) and out of my normal lens is a bright 1.8 / 75er portrait lens. Distance setting by pressing the magnification button (The use of magnification is strongly recommended, since one with the focus quite often is otherwise wrong!) And the edge enhancement does not work exactly luxurious, but it works.
Conclusion: A well processed adapter with a truly functional aperture ring for G lenses. Actually, this part deserves to be fully 5 star; the measly equipment (a manual is missing) but must be penalized by deduction in the B-Note.
PS: Not every lens, which is very good at Nikon must operate at the Fuji equally well; so I set as hard when AF 2.8 / 10.5 DX fringing (CAs), especially in the border areas, the Nikon cameras D800 and D300 does not, or only very weakly. However, the images are quite usable. So you have to try, what goes with what results!
