The lens I bought as a replacement for my 18 / 55er Kit. That's not bad, but I know that it's better, after I got myself my telephoto lens. Decisive is mE the ED glass (or XLD glass), which significantly raises the image quality. The autofocus is fast, quiet and accurate. The focus pumps often described with BW> 90mm I could not find on my A57 (Firmware 1:04). When films of AF is still good to hear, but when shooting with an SLR / SLT is an external Micro eh duty. A distance scale for the focus ring would have been quite nice but is not a must. There are at my camera peaking as focusing aid. It is also very good for close-ups. From a processing perspective, it is quite high. Much better than the kit. (I still have the old SAL1855, not the new SAL1855 II) First I toyed with the Sigma 17-70C, but that was too expensive. And my camera supports this lens with lens corrections. Not Helpful? Any Questions? Bring it on!
