Through an acquaintance I came in search of a new mechanical keyboard on the decimator of Epicgear. Neither name nor model have told me something, a brief investigation revealed, however, that Epicgear belongs to the corporate network from GeIL, which are actually known more for RAM modules for gamers. The only common ground seems to be the sleek design here. The decimator comes in a sturdy, portable keyboard package and a stately weight of just under 4 kg. Supplied located beside the keyboard a cloth cover (dust), and an alternative set of key caps and the associated tool to change the keys. Driver CD or a manual one seeks in vain, however. Those who want to use the decimator in its full range of functions or quick problem resolution, the need to load the driver suite with instructions over the Internet. After all, the keyboard does however limited without correct drivers. The Epicgear decimator used the MX mechanical switches from Cherry. You can choose between the red and brown MX switches that do not use linear print travel compared to the red MX-switches, but to trigger the key have an extra resistance. As a prolific writer and PC gamers I decided relatively quickly for red MX switch, as I have done here already very good experience in the past. The pressure point is at 45 grams, so that fast and accurate typing just goes out of hand. Ultimately, however, you should personally invest in a mechanical keyboard hand, since each user has different preferences. The equipment of the decimator can be proud of. In addition to two compulsory USB 2.0 ports, a headphone and microphone jack, a volume control and a (mounted) palm rest, there are five macro keys. The keys can be illuminated in different stages, but this is limited to the WASD, macro- and number keys. The alternative keycaps are red and can be quickly and easily exchanged. An indirect light source appears under the keyboard by but this is barely visible under normal lighting conditions. About a function key can be the key to use F5-F8 as multimedia control, which also works continuously with various applications. The volume control wheel on the other hand is very well made, but it is in everyday life as a stubborn out. A mute button, there namely not have to turn the volume wheel twice quieter instead. Needless to say that this is regularly ends in silence when adjusting the volume. The appearance of the keyboard is well described with striking the most objective. According Epicgear want to establish a sleek design that is reminiscent of sports cars. This works only partially. While offering the decimator a striking design and comes through the many aluminum and nobly. However, that makes the keyboard look like a Transformer, which every moment turns into a Segway. The peripheral connectors are located on the back of Epicgear decimator and are embedded in two ventilation shafts. This can prove to be tricky, but it is not unreasonable. Conceivable, however, that shapeless USB sticks hard to fit into the duct of the keyboard. All in all, the Epicgear decimator at a solid price / performance ratio, but with 130 Euro and the lack of comfort functions a bit more expensive than comparable products. Who can get used to the design of the keyboard, which gets a quality produced and precise input device, which probably can survive one or another decade because of its processing.
