What I wanted?
- A notebook with 15.6-inch, because the keyboard then also includes a numeric keypad.
- A device with 4GB of RAM, which is upgradeable.
- A reasonable and unobtrusive Trackpad
- A non-reflective screen
- LINUX must run it!
Yes, with the first points to get a budget of EUR -300 at most major manufacturers towards good. But as the Linux compatibility, go quickly from the lights. For example, I had a Lenovo with quite similar technical specifications, which only made trouble.
Now I read often that Acer notebook also not exactly to be the major Linux heroes. In my model, I can say fortunately that is not the case. It runs on Kubuntu 4.12 LTS, and I just had to make a small adjustment (ACPI backlight vendor), but require some other models also.
Everything works fine. Display and the Intel HD Graphics is detected easily and works - even with an external monitor in Dual Operation - without any problems. The sound from the stereo speakers sound clear and strong but somewhat bassarm. The touchpad is very pleasant and also supports up to 3 fingers simultaneously. When scrolling, it is with very great precision, so I'm actually the first time got away from the mouse with a notebook. The fan starts rarely, the device works quite quickly. My Linux takes off in about 6 seconds until the registration. Even the standby mode works fine.
The device looks very smart and the terminals are arranged also useful. Right there are two USB 2.0 ports and the DVD burner, left a USB 3.0 port, an HDMI and a VGA port as well as the charging port, a LAN port and normal stereo plug for microphone and headphones.
The keyboard typed very good for my taste. Is unusual that there is no distance between the numeric and the main block. Similarly, there are front Although 4 LEDs (operating, battery, hard drive, Wi-Fi), but not for Num or Caps Lock.
Also strange I find the additional buttons, which was integrated with the cursor block. A key and one for $. Interestingly, promoted neither button the corresponding symbol on the screen.
Well, I think, moreover, that has been dispensed with no key. Some notebook models by various keys will be happy either omitted or must be pressed in combination cumbersome (eg. On-screen and decrease buttons).
The display can open quite far if you want because. The webcam is also easily recognized and provides a good image. The cover will not be damaged by the closure when closing detained, but purely by the hinges themselves, that is snapped onto the last few centimeters to close the ceiling of themselves. Handed opening is therefore possible in principle.
The battery life is also quite good. With a fully charged battery and medium screen brightness to get a good 5 hours out of intensive writing activity until at 20% charge remaining, the first warning is displayed. After that, I can still work a good 30 to 45 minutes before at 5% of the standby is initiated.
Conclusion for me: perfect. And even at a good price.
