I use this cable for a little more than a year without any problems with a Surface Pro (1st generation). It is alternately operated on a PC monitor and a Panasonic Viera Plasma TV. Picture and sound, everything works fine!

You should just be careful that you're not wrong, the cable fits snugly into the surface, the rationale is also, of course, but it has no function. After a while you realize the plug-in direction, and then it runs like clockwork.
