Georges Izard: Lawyer of Freedom (Paperback)

Customer Review

Georges Izard is a lawyer from the early twentieth century. Very involved in politics (left) and founder of Esprit, granddaughter presents its commitments and lifestyle through this book.
The author recounts the childhood of Georges Izard, its educational pathways and the formation of his religious ideas.
It also presents some emblematic cases that his grandfather treated as the trial Kravchenko (Russian opponent of the Communist Party), the struggle for the return to power of Mohammed V of Morocco and the defense of François Mitterand in the case of Observatory which are representative of Georges Izard combat against all forms of alienation of freedom.
We understand Izard did not hesitate to embark on the defense when people felt this just struggle, struggling against public opinion and against the current ideas of the intellectuals of the moment.
The political course is also following this counsel of its investment in the political struggle in his youth to disillusionment.
George Izard was very surrounded, he received many intellectuals and leaders of the political, religious and social (François Mauriac, Cardinal Daniélou) within his family and his little girl gives us a glimpse relations that tie and untie in this intellectual boiling period.

This book initially appeared to me very emotional, you feel in this narrative the admiration that the author has her grandfather, she met many people from the professional circle of it and transcribed to all these meetings, the good and the bad about Izard.
This book also allows us to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the mid-twentieth century, its bitter struggles in terms of ideas and passionate company.
I found this book very readable, you want to know everything about this man and his entourage, the writing style of the author is very fluid and almost makes us regret that the book is not longer .
