I do not dispute the title of pioneer work that will open the door to a whole style of music widely worst. Despite all these musicians who will know the latest in what is wrongly called the "Jazz-Rock" is still here in the field of jazz.
Shhh / Peaceful is a little journey into boredom: Tony Williams ternairise to death on his charley for 18 minutes, the bass is very hypnotic, but equally soporific. As I do not like electric piano, here I used two or three at a time! This harmonic background makes me think of the long with its rumbling Hammond and Fender Rhodes to a gurgling sinks symphony for piping.
There obviously has beautiful projections trumpet and sax, but that's about all. John McLaughlin on guitar is nonexistent.
The two face is more interesting. The first part of In A Silent Way is quite atmospheric, McLaughlin arpeggios of guitars, bass and piano arabesques bow, sax Shorter happens after two minutes, followed by the trumpet of Miles is my faith pretty enough!
It finally wakes up with "Its About That Time" (it still has trouble leaving!). Only when Dave Holland embarks on a bass theme singing and dancing scenes reminiscent future Weather Report that the piece is finally taking off. The sax and trumpet finally let go, but what a beautiful waiting! Tony Williams remembers that he drums and cymbals, great! Alas the fireworks is already finished.
As the piece has a sonata form (yes, really!) We return to the theme of the beginning of the second face, with an evolution of the most majestic brass, it's still pretty nice, but it's over!
I much prefer "Kind Of Blue" (which has nothing to do I agree), maybe I was expecting too much "In A Silent Way"?
