unfortunately I have to agree with previous speakers and other urgently advise against this hard drive.
I have assembled three complete systems with this drive about 10 months ago. After almost 8 months passed the first hard drive. When I booted up Windows XP it was a repetitive clicking noise of itself, and the startup process froze.
Two of these disks I had in my company in operation. To my horror the same thing happened with the second disk about a month later - and today, about 10 months after installation, died the last Samsung plate under cruel clicking sounds. Fortunately, I was prepared with appropriate backups.
I do not want to pick on Samsung - in my IT career I had to do not with other brands negative experiences. It should be known, for example, that hard drives are very fragile during operation. The soft knee a colleague against a running system destroyed so recently a current S-ATA hard drive from Western Digital. In the past (about 4 years ago) we had an incredible number of defaults on Maxtor hard drives, a few years before that it was the data servants of IBM, which proved to be extremely unreliable.
So it is difficult today to make a recommendation to a reliable hard drive brand. The media have unfortunately become significantly more prone to errors because of the higher data density and the fierce competition.
One thing is certain: Without a regular data backup, I will no longer drive can trust as it was the case maybe 10 years ago. :-)
