first ...
before here perhaps superfluously further reads:
I own only racing games that offer a cockpit view, I drive exclusively in this perspective and exclusively with steering wheel / pedals (MS Racing Wheel) - these aspects to understand my review.
in Shift 2 thus makes the so-called helmet camera for me the charm of - an extension of the cockpit view, if you will. centrifugal forces acting on the driver are simulated, furthermore is already in / front Driving a curve whose targeted vertex.
my gamerei I indulging incidentally> offline
same time quite important, I think:
you'll be in this thread not of reviews mislead, the shift 2 unplayable accuse it comes to control.
you namely first - after frequently described herein boating, in which one is catapulted at game start - discovered the appropriate configuration menu, the world looks very different but equal.
after almost 20 years now more virtual race driving - long on the PC, Xbox increased lately - I certify Shift 2 with the most realistic controllability at all.
My tip to the settings (steering): steering sensitivity strictly against zero dead band anyway to zero (one wants to go straight to go), tempo-dependent steering 100%, steering angle (infelicitous name) 270 degrees - as a result, the own steering movements / rashes simultaneously are reproduced in the cockpit (helmet) -perspective.
a pity, but probably not otherwise feasible:
I strongly suspect that the anti-aliasing of graphics unit is not fully utilized / overused to in this detail of the lines and rolling on the Xbox 360 just yet to produce a reasonable frame rate. antialiasing is therefore not the strength of shift 2 to flicker here and there you have to get used to so.
in the whole the appearance but quite intoxicating and has flair. and the frame rate fits properly, no stuttering, nothing.
the described graphic shortcoming also restricts the fun one not really that should be noted here necessarily.
great thing:
the physics of all vehicles belongs entirely with the finest. absolutely understandable. but less clear why you completely in this pleasure comes only after garages updates and much subsequent fumbling to tens settings. probably the so having almost the makings of Formula 1 engineer and completely sympathizes with this task in his element.
very positive:
a coupling is the way this time also donated. less that they would need to start up, but finally you can cancel at short notice the traction on the drive axle before it perhaps comes from the gravel (especially for cars with rear-wheel drive of course)
a little whine:
4 stars instead of 5, is mainly in a point justified - I find that this complex and absolutely successful game would have deserved to simulate a full race weekend, including training, qualification, warm-up, etc..
a real shame.
Another small drawback is then that there is for the helmet camera not so wonderful setting as for the control. no fact. would be desirable parameters such as the so-called "look to apexglance angle but well - which is really complain at a high level.
so would you then also finally in steuerungsmenu can set an additional parameter to force feedback, which allows the curbs to shake or in collisions in relation to force feedback, which the grip of the asphalt reproduces, regulate.
But please - to complain about all the highest level ;-), right?
Finally, my conclusion therefore - and this is well known, be short and concise:
Shift 2 is quite simply one of the best racing game titles so far.
I wish in this respect on all sides HAPPY RACING!

ps
my favorite car so far - because the helmet camera is simply forbidden well: the 'radical then sr3rennen preferably in the field of identical vehicles. already makes mood.
