To say in advance is what others have already said before me: Scanner good, software is sometimes maddening. I understand anyway this SE versions. The make each workflow broken and just throw a bad light on a company
Scanner:
+ So the scanner is well convinced me basically. A good impression and has mastered the previous scans good power
+ Multi-Exposure (not expect too much) and convince infrared
+ - The scanner provides the driver's own software QuickScan. I have looked after the problems with SilverFast also considered to use these. What is very good that you just have to press the button on the scanner and scans it with the settings previously defined. Only he cuts the image unfortunately often wrong, the quality seems pretty gross. Multi-Exposure is not. Only limited post
- If you can believe SilverFast then the scanner has an optical resolution of 2400dpi only (a green / yellow / red indicator in the program is probably the show). The promised 7200 dpi are probably only interpolated. I have my slides scanned only 2400 and 3200dpi since then (/ 3100x2100px jpg approx) is about 5MB per image. I've had enough for the presentation and for archival purposes
- The running of the scanner is pretty shaky. Although the rail locks into place when plugging in the slide position but you must still jiggle slightly until it is seated. Also move the image already from the scanning area a little move to the right and left. Of course, that is why during the Scannes the track are not affected.
Software (SilverFast SE):
+ 64bit support works for me. Not like in other recessions. Have the latest version downloaded from the Internet.
+ Quality with all setting well. Holt from Dias much out and are well watchable
- In the SE version but some important features that a truly effective scanning missing make possible
- No numbering possible. Since only a shake of the head remains. Files are numbered only on the operating system (For Windows ie file (1) .jpg, ...) There is another program requires a proper designation to get out (I Advenced Renamer used)
- No adjustment possible metadata. How gladly I would have just been set the recording date during the scan for a series of images. Or maybe a day of shooting date. Unfortunately, everything is not possible. For that I have reused the Advanced Renamer
- Now for the worst ... the workflow SilverFast has been I think for flatbed scanner created on the then several slides are placed. For the push-through principle of Plustek is not right. For 50 Dias no problem but from 100 it is just annoying. The workflow looks at me like I interleave the dia. Preview click. The framework aligned properly. The tone korregiere. The colors korregiere. The picture turn right, and then click Scan. While there is the function "find frames" only deletes all these settings and I had every time the settings relist.
How nice it would be if the frame would be found without a preview, a simple Levels would be made and the colors are korregiert. (This is now really no longer a problem). I must say that there are all these functions only they function automatically or correctly (colors are wrong and tonal values from cuts)
- Infrared scan detects in some slides (glass, very shallow or Kodachrome) the edges of the slide as an error and corrects it. The image is then unfit
I hope people from Plustek and SilverFast read this report and consider this. Hope the report can help
We continue to use the slide scanner and are also happy that we can finally scan the slides. One has to just bring a lot of time and sometimes strong nerves. Four star gabs since the scanner itself is good. The software I have rather seen as a standalone product.
SUPPLEMENT:
One more thing which I noticed during the further scanning. Has the recession in writing so far only positive scanned and then came across some negatives. The scanner comes with these much better clearly have to say. The densitometer and Tonwertanzeige shows here much more even distributions and values of the scan looks clean. Find the Negativscan outdated but still a lot of the pictures. Hope this may help someone yet
