"Bretonne" - German for "Breton" - is a tribute to the 28 year old singer to Brittany, where she spent her early years. Hence the album cover showing a child photo of Leroy, and expresses the closeness to their homeland.
The CD brings together a total of 13 cover versions of traditional Breton and Celtic pieces, including seven songs in French, four in Breton, one in Irish and one sung in English.
Here at first the track list of the normal French Edition (translation corrections are welcome):
1. Tri Martolod [Breton: "Three Mariners"]
2. La jument de Michao [French: "The mare of Michao"]
3. Suite Sudarmoricaine [Breton: "Südarmorikanische result"]
4. Greensleeves [English: "Green Sleeves"]
5. Brest [French: "Brest" (city in Brittany)]
6. Bro gozh va Zadou [Breton: "The Old Land of My Fathers" (The National Anthem of Brittany)]
7. MNA na H-Eireann [Irish: "Women of Ireland"]
8. Ma Bretagne quand elle pleut [French: "When it rains in my Brittany"]
9. Je ne serai jamais ta Parisienne [French: "I'll never be your Parisian"]
10. Karantez vro [Breton: "love of country"]
11. Le bagad de Lann-Bihoué [French: "The music group of Lann-Bihoué"]
12. Dans les prisons de Nantes [French: "In the prisons of Nantes"]
13. Rentrer en Bretagne [French: "return to Brittany"]
I personally like the album very well, although or perhaps because Breton / Celtic "Folk Songs" not really for the hearing (ed), what else listen to music. Especially the first three pieces have it done to me, because they are very lively and inviting to dance. After the disc is a quiet, partly melancholic, and invites you to dream and relax. Towards the end - with the songs 11 and 12 - took the CD back some momentum on before the last ballad "Rentrer en Bretagne" closes the album.
In the booklet beautiful typical landscapes of Brittany are displayed and printed lyrics. The CD also features an open-Disc feature that can be accessed online on bonus material.
"Bretonne" is at the moment one of my favorite albums, so I forgive 5 out of 5 points.
UPDATE (19/01/2012):
- In November 2011, a deluxe edition of the album has been released with seven additional titles in France.
She is a beautiful digipak and holds two booklets ready: the first contains all the lyrics (even the additional songs), the second shows the current photos singer who lacked the Standardedtion entirely.
The CD includes 13 pieces of the normal output + 7 the following additional covers that have not really anything to do with Brittany, but still connect almost seamlessly to the other songs:
14. Moonlight Shadow
15. Scarborough Fair
16. Whiskey in the Jar
17. Siuil a ruin
18. To France
19. Amazing Grace
20 Dirty Old Town
- On 20.01.2012 a version has been released for the German-speaking countries. It contains 13 pieces of ordinary French version + "Siuil a ruin" + "Scarborough Fair" (= a total of 15 tracks).
So, It should be noted that the German public five titles of the French Deluxe Edition will be withheld!
