As the successor of my previous camera I bought 2 months ago the Fujifilm FinePix S1 and can mainly positive report now after more than 1000 photos. I would now like to make this camera mainly comments that I read so far nowhere.
The usual in this type camera small 1 / 2.3 inch sensor allows the maximum focal length of 1200 mm in a compact package. So you can even inside machines or other confined spaces photograph well with full zoom and thanks to the folding screen from any position, the control over the recording.
Outdoors made photos show but very quickly the limits of large focal lengths: restless air leads to object distortions help as neither stand nor short exposure times (eg shows a photo of an antenna mast struts in sharply but as of several non-aligned pieces composed.).
Therefore even more focal length makes my opinion outdoors over long distances makes little sense.
At first I missed at the camera during macro shooting with manual focus, the familiar from my previous camera bar display the current focus position. But an automatically magnify the image center (Function Focus Control) helps here during recording. BUT: The autofocus worked previously always so good that I manual focus is no longer needed in practice!
In the Internet are referred to the camera HDR function. In low light, my PRO LOW LIGHT function is more important. Here, the camera automatically takes a short time 4 shots and netted them a sharp, high-contrast image. So I could in poor lighting already so do some recording, which showed much more detail than I saw previously.
In my previous cameras I could use an adapter accessory with my 58mm filter thread. With the Fujifilm FinePix S1 This is along with a step-down filter adapters 72 mm-58 mm is possible only through the detour Filter Adapter Fujifilm AR S1.
Originally, I was skeptical because I feared vignetting at minimum focal length. Here, the camera displays a remarkable positive behavior. Initially, the display shows in the corners of dark spots as a sign of vignetting. But do they hold the camera for a few seconds quiet, dark areas disappear, the finished photo shows everywhere a clear picture. An intelligent camera function is thus able to calculate out shadowing. This I have found in sun visor, macro lens and polarizing filter.
For on-site inspection made recordings the 3-screen is not always large enough. Therefore I use an external display 7, which is connected via the HDMI port on the camera.
Made photos and films are alternatively displayed on the 7-menu (in the recording mode, the external display can not but use). Videos are in 16: 9 format shown; Photos and enlargements with this camera always in the format 4: 3.
In addition to the camera features Fujifilm remote control via Android devices (Remote APP). The connection between the camera and Android device is well described on the Internet at the company sites and works reliably over several meters in some cases also by chamber walls.
The remote control (push and release) is working fine, but mentioned in the Internet function is to focus on the camera-specific app support, where you tap on any place in the frame. The camera will only focus during recording.
It should be noted that the remote controlled camera to ISO AUTO mode used. Thus, the ISO value will vary depending on the light condition. The previously used or permanently set ISO value is not used here.
The video quality has to be necessarily returned to the 640x480 resolution, since the camera by the Remote APP simultaneous Live View for mobile device transmits and receives a video sequence. This is lt. Mail reply from Fujifilm technically possible only with the reduced resolution.
Combined with an electric pan and tilt head, I can do very special photos of a 4 m high tripod thanks to the remote control.
Conclusion: The Fujifilm FinePix S1 was a good buy.
