It need no crystal ball to predict that today April 24th comes the comeback album of the year! Blur, the band through the nineties and through to the 2000s musical setting accents like no other band in this period are back! And they do not make it too difficult for the fans too: the opening title LONESOME STREET (for which there is a wonderfully sloping Video) catapults the listener into the heart of the old records. And also the following songs offer a tour of the whole cosmos blur to Albarn's solo projects. Recorded in 2013 rather out of boredom (because of the cancellation of a festival appearance) in Hong Kong, the songs were later in the home of Coxon and producer Street - of all their great successes of the 90 supervised - zusammengefrickelt and provided by Albarn with lyrics that recognized the Asian Impressions and influences reflect. The result is something that refers to the band itself as "sci-fi folk," maybe not their best work, but because of the enormous variety offering something for everyone. No further Albarn show so, but provided with influences of all band members. This rich diversity - from Britpop to Ennio Morricone-bonds, of cheerful whistling and La-La to gloomy passages - is for me the big plus of THE MAGIC WHIP, and also like it when it sounds corny: with each listen win the songs strength. Only the ballad THE TERRACOTTA HEART has got too comfortable for my taste. But - Goethe knew: "Give much, is to many minds; / And everyone goes home contented." If you have, this album!
