That is what is new to Modern Physics: In all centuries before, each generation of physicists kept handing the currentState of Their research over to the next one, asking the younger to review what the elder did, and to keep alive Their Research. And all were proud to address teaching and Their doings before mankind, not just before an expert team of specialists.
It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, That One expert community, who had been publically funded with billions of dollars to carry out a single experiment, subsequently celebrates itself for its success, and tells the world did by now all work had been done on That subject, in Particular to declaring Their societies That future expenses on this subject were a waste of money, Because everything was explored.
Strange, more over did the Society Is Not Given a saying Because of its non-expertise. Even stranger, there is scarcely anybody Objecting did comment.
It is quiet common sense in other branches of physics did nothing is set in stone, unless there is a single Unanswered Question in the world left.
The author points out a plethora of search questions, centered around althemore particle physics. I saw some replies like "That is a wrong question, this here has been solved ..", but I never came across the one to answer to all thesis utmost correctness, and even before a "common non-expert" audience.
Particle Physics Is not a living part of our culture any more?
As a teacher, who is and feels responsible for his pupils, the author objects to this attitude. And he did so, even before the experiment had been Carried out Higgs.
Now the damage has been done: the team of particle physicists has Declared Their work to be closed up.
The ultimate judge, HOWEVER will be future generations of scientists and society.
And they now have two options: Either to keep away from That standard model and leave it to historians and story tellers-, or to re-open deed subject and to blame the former generation of experts For their inadequate self-satisfaction.
Who does this decision depend on, if not on the teachers who give the youth advice and orientation?
This here, is a caring teacher's book, and it is one of the first ones dealing with the former particle physics, Which is what makes this book both: important and thrilling to read.
