### AUTOFOCUS ###
First, I want to emphasize that my model perfectly focused, both in Live View mode and when using the optical viewfinder. I've thoroughly tested it with the 50mm f / 1.4 Canon, as well as with the 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS II USM and also with the kit lens 18-55 f / 3.5-5.6 STM.
While the kit lens and the 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS II USM immediately proved to all focal points in both Live View and viewfinder operation excellent marksmanship, I had to readjust a bit the 50mm f / 1.4. This is easy on the camera menu: in the penultimate menu you can make further adjustments to the autofocus. There are under no. Function 13 AF fine tuning. In addition I have the camera attached to a tripod, and photographed at a shallow angle to a ruler. First, I could see a slight front focus, but with a fine tuning value of +11, the focus was right where it should be. Namely, both the viewfinder and Live View via.
After that I have hundreds of photos with the 50mm f / 1.4 made (both by the viewfinder and Live View via) and trying to find any blur and focus problems. Inside in low light and different distances, then outside in the garden and the focus really was always where he should be. Just like with my 5D Mark III, with the I photograph else. I have tried all focal points of the 70D in this way over and over again, but the images are in my focus point is always sharp, even when the viewfinder mode.
In this respect I can say when photographing at least for my camera model and the 50mm f / 1.4 luckily no problems with the autofocus.
I'm glad this regard to give the all-clear in my configuration.
The 70D has well known on the Dual Pixel Auto Focus, which allows focusing in Live View mode, which is familiar to camcorders and also of mirrorless digital cameras. And indeed, the focus is taken quickly in Live View and can be steered both keystroke and touch screen to specific objects.
For the video shoot that's great, but also taking pictures makes now in LiveView finally fun. Very nice is also the possibility of digital zoom in the focus area and so to be able to see exactly if everything is sharp. This is nothing new, but still good. My family members are not as excited as I photographed, and they love to use the Live View. I myself prefer to take the view finder, unless I need time special perspectives: a daisy on a wet from the morning dew meadow of the page with Live View and folding screen to take pictures is much more pleasant than to lie on his stomach on the meadow and through the viewfinder to squint :-).
Now to the actual: The 70D is quite excellent camera for almost every situation. Sequentially:
### ### ERGONOMICS
The camera is located (for my full-size men's hands) good in the hand. You can as well with medium-sized lenses like the 24-105mm f / 4, which I jokingly also successfully tested on the 70D, have a good time with one hand. If you then pulls the trigger, of course, should come the second hand to stabilize it, but I always find it important that the camera is safely inside in one hand and can be kept.
Very good solution is also the layout of the controls. I use the "Back Button Focus" (adjustable in the menu), so I can press the AF-ON button on the back with his thumb and can focus so. The button is right where she sits on the 5D Mark III and on the 6D, namely exactly at the point where the thumb is.
Super I find the upper controls, esp. The button for the ISO setting, which is easily reached by the forefinger, without looking.
The fold-out touchscreen is just great. I never thought that I'd love to smack around on the screen, because I can fly even without touch screen through the menus with the 5D Mark III and 6D, but there are cases, as it is simply practical. For example, when configuring the Wi-Fi connection. Who had to enter without a touchscreen a long password before, know what I'm talking about. In playback mode, the touch screen is very pleasant. You can scroll, zoom, highlight everything top.
### Image Quality ###
Of course, the image quality depends on the lens. If you like photographed in dark indoors, should definitely set a lens with a maximum aperture of 1.4 or 1.8, in order not to end up with the ISO values beyond 6400. After all the noise there is already clear. I'm spoiled by the full-format cameras, the nose have significantly forward in noise performance. But I am pleasantly surprised by the good image of the 70D well at ISO 1600 and 3200th
In the 70D a new sensor has been used, the progress for many years employed 18-megapixel sensor is definitely that one finds in the 600D, 650D and 700D for example.
### WLAN ###
Without going into each camera function now, I grab out a particular point: the wireless option. I find it perfectly solved. It is both possible to integrate the camera into an existing network and then the photos, for example to a printer located in this network (I have the Canon Selphy eg with WLAN function) to send, as well as the photos directly on the iPad or a to consider Android device. The camera can be remotely controlled via app, specifically including Live View preview on your tablet or phone.
However, the 70D can also create their own small network, in which one then be able to log on the go via iPad, iPhone or Android device itself. This works absolutely flawlessly both on my Nexus 7 as well as on our iPad.
### Battery Life ###
Wireless and Live View Battery Eater. Otherwise, the batteries last through hundreds of shots, especially when the wireless network is turned off.
### CONCLUSIONS ###
Anyone looking for a rational WLAN implementation, is currently best served with the 70D or 6D.
The 6D is the better choice for shooting in low light, when it comes to the noise behavior. For the more cross-type sensors 70D has better autofocus system, esp. (Which also work well). On the other hand, the central focus point of the 6D is a super-cross-type point at at very low light still focused (better than the 70D).
For sports photography, the 70D is super.
For family photos and leisure activities as well.
As Kit I recommend the 18-135mm STM lens. With the 18-55mm one is pretty limited, and especially on holiday, I do not want to constantly have to switch lenses anyway. So I borrowed the 18-135mm now ordered and will then sell the 18-55 well.
Two criticisms I have, however: on the one that bothers me about the camera the smell - somehow the device is probably not quite transpired. It smells like plastic / rubber, and the smell is also hands over. I hope that the more sets.
Secondly, I would have liked two memory card slots to make a backup in your camera can.
