"By the time it gets dark" is that album that has accompanied me on my first Ireland trip - on the recommendation of a good friend. He whispered that Mary Black is an absolute must. A few years later the status of the Irish singer still seems to be in the range of bush radio, at least in Germany. But the harm the enjoyment of their songs in no way! "By the time it gets dark" is an album from the 80s. Strikingly, especially when compared to more recent productions of Irish, are a maedchenhafte spherical voice and dreamy, concentrated on the essential arrangements. Nothing sounds like it was written for Mary Black. Stylistically Souveraen master Blacks musicians the cliff, not just copying known ways, but to reinterpret - and breathe something distinctively Irish songs. Even the often strained "Moon River," in a Hollywood original song written by Henry Mancini, sounds amazing "new". Conclusion: without this album I'd feel poorer.
