My first attempts were not very successful: the display was jerky and the touch sensor was not working. I had a similar screen that worked correctly on an Arduino Mega board; I made the exchange and got the same results. I deduced that it was the adapter at issue. I scrutinized in detail, checked compliance with the wiring diagram and I eventually discovered that the power of choice jumpers were poorly positioned: the 3.3V and 5V lines were both connected on the display. I pulled out my soldering iron and, once the erroneous connection to the 5V line removed, everything works fine. Too bad the hardware does not check evening before sending!
