These adapters allow me to use my iPhone 5 with a dock or a charging cable to the old model of iPhone. I did not have display "unsupported". I use the dark with my dock (everything is black) and white with charger (everything is white!). It's just a matter of aesthetics but I prefer. The adapters are much cheaper than brand.
If you have a shell, attention to the cut-out for the charger. Some shells do not allow to use these adapters (too narrow aperture).
