The SIM card must include the PIN code 1234, and not any code; If the default code is not 1234, but 0000, it will not work, so in this case, change the default code of the card in 1234 with a mobile phone; GSM alarm system is designed to treat only factory PIN 1234.
The SIM card is preferably a basic subscription of a large provider (Orange, SFR or affiliates), it will be able to send and receive SMS. A prepaid card will not be very practical to use because to be charged, it will be removed from the alarm and mounted in a mobile phone.
Note: For remote control via telephone (useful), the alarm will ask you to type on the keyboard a password, this is 1234! unchangeable.
I hope this helps because it took me a day to find this alone.
