The author uses the pretext to return to our couple on the roads, to rebuild, grow strong. This road trip will aim not of the "closer" in the traditional sense of romance, but to give them the maturity to go in the "adult world" and take responsibility.
I preferred the first trip that had me more "took guts." I had traveled with the heroes and was passed by more sensations. There I remained somewhat outside, as if the journey was only a whim without consequence.
Then the author accelerates time and aged much faster, flying over their lives and arises only occasionally, enough to give a vision of the future imagined by the author player.
Some may be frustrated by this playback mode, but others will appreciate as it allows to answer all the possible questions that could arise.
In addition, the end allows the author to reserve a possible follow - not necessary, but possible.
In the end, the end of the diptych is worse than the first part (for my taste) but answers to possible questions from readers and offer a future to two heroes who are found.
