Customer Review

Content
The biographical novel describes the life of Theodosia Burr Alston-(1783 - 1813) of its 17.Geburtstag until her untimely death at the age of almost 30 years. Having early lost her mother and her sister, she is by her father, Aaron Burr (1756 - 1836, vice-president under Thomas Jefferson) educated. The bond between father and daughter is extremely narrow, Theodosia idolized her charismatic father and is also much loved and spoiled by this. However, the egocentric and ambitious man does not hesitate to use his daughter for personal purposes as profitably as possible. At his insistence, she married Joseph Alston with 18 years (1779-1816), the son of a wealthy plantation owner Dynasty and influential family from South Carolina. Theodosia is in Meriwether Lewis (1774 - 1809) in love, but sacrifices her revered father's sake their own desires on. However, in South Carolina, they will not be happy, which is both the best, "lukewarm" relationship with her husband and when ye not conducive climate in the south. As often as possible, she travels to her father and tries to support this in its turbulent and marked by scandals career.

Assessment
The first novel by Anya Seton is already - as will her other books - very thoroughly researched, and allows the reader an interesting insight into the social and political conditions in the young America. The action takes place mainly on the east coast, but also the issues of the early development of the western areas and the institutionalized slavery in the South to be addressed.
Life of Aaron Burr is presented facts faithfully, regarding Theodosias marriage to Joseph Alston and her love for Meriwether Lewis, the situation is not entirely clear: The author himself refers in his preface (Author's Note) to various sources to support its interpretation , other sources indicate that it should be taken a few literary liberties and Theodosias husband and the marriage of the two who portrays negative, as it corresponds to the historical facts.
Nevertheless, has the written fluently and vividly engrossing novel entertainment and beyond historical information about the machinations of Aaron Burr.
The complexity of this interesting personality is well worked out, as the time for the exceptionally close relationship between father and daughter.
Readers who are interested in American history of the 19th century, the novels can be recommended in any case.

Conclusion
