Twenty (2CD) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

For 20 years, Boyz II Men are now already present in fact so short-lived music business and have in that time probably already quite a bit of ups and downs experienced. Since the separation of bass singer Michael McCary few years ago, the "boys" are indeed only three of us traveling, but - so the impression left their last albums - but a bit more mature and more satisfied with themselves and their musical results. Even with "Throwback", "The Remedy" and finally the "Motown" / "Love" -Coveralben Boyz II Men have shown that they sound good not only, but primarily are also authentic and largely independent of sales with their music honestly identify.

With "Twenty", the trio now celebrates itself and its (preliminary) musical lifework. Will be delivered a double album with 12 new titles (+1 bonus track on disc 2) and 8 reissues of old hits. And that comes from the very beginning from the right. The opening song "Believe" shakes with rich bass and rhythm schmissigem awake the eardrum, the pace is "So Amazing" then further held up initially with before with "Put Some Music On" a title with classic hints strikes calmer tones. With "Slowly" is a pleasing Slow Jam closes, followed by the first highlight of the album, "More Than You'll Ever Know" directed by and starring R & B legend "Uncle" Charlie Wilson.
The second half of the first CD is characterized by two really outstanding Babyface compositions: "I Shoulda Lied" as soulful introduction and a little later, "One More Dance" - the catchy song par excellence. The title begins quite unimpressive, unfolds towards the end but an incredible dynamic - just fantastic! Combining Babyface + Boyz II Men is including nearly two decades for "End Of The Road" still unbeatable. It is no wonder that the other tracks around it a little faded (especially Teddy Riley's "Flow"). "One Up For Love" constitutes a kind of ode to the love of music the completion of the first CD.

The second CD of "Twenty" you have probably not lose many words: titles such as "I'll Make Love To You", "End Of The Road" and "On Bended Knee" has probably every diehard fan already in his collection. Here you have it then conveniently again all together on an album, and indeed arranged as nice reissues. It is interesting especially as the original solos by Michael McCary be, as a kind of hidden message "circumnavigated" (= deleted): "Hey You see, it's possible without you!"

In addition to music convinced, moreover, the CD booklet, which with a detailed "timeline" to the main stations from 20 years of Boyz II Men short and sweet and sometimes also with very personal information (among other things, obviously anything but "clean" Separation of Michael McCary) comes up.

Conclusion: "Twenty" is a dignified, sophisticated and fully recommended album - for die-hard fans anyway. For those who want to be there, the opportunity for the long overdue start. In January 2012, Boyz II Men, incidentally, on tour in Germany !!!
