Customer Review

I have but then decided to upgrade from the G10 to the G12 and not to open another barrel, so a mirrorless Olympus EP-2, a Panasonic GF1 or a Sony Nex-5 to create and to be provided with a further objective Park. The G12 is now, like its predecessor the G10 addition to my EOS 30D, the getting on in years and indeed for an early upgrade or replacement thirsts ;-) So G12, the Canon System flash suits as well at the G10. And the menu is familiar to me, increasing my speed.

After the first unpacking of the G12 first time a bitter disappointment: the part is fully made of plastic. Since the G10 felt even better, more robust to. Either that was firmer with her, wertigerer plastic or even metal. Hello Canon! I would love to pay 50 or even 100 Euros more when using magnesium in the housing! Please for the G13 or G14 mark! Although then as expensive as an entry-level DSLR is ... never mind. The handiness of the G-series can not replace a DSLR!

Then further tested by ... 2 years with the beloved G10 the G12 is familiar to me quickly. A few nice new features in the Scenes (Model mode, fisheye, etc.), larger video format, folding monitor (who comes to me real cheap ... before plastic grip), HDR function but what I appreciated very quickly in any case: the Camera can withstand higher ISO better, she rushes much less, almost 5 megapixel less on Senor ... that is noticeable. Finally, the more harmful pixel race, the manufacturer is over! In addition, the G12 is faster and safer in autofocus, which is also very important for me. Also, the image stabilization has become more secure, especially in the macro area; great! And the quick switch from JPEG to RAW or JPEG + RAW is great too!

And what also pleased me: the old G10-ready case also adjusts the G12, not perfect but good; enough to conserve the camera for everyday use. Very good, I also think that the new Canon Filter Adapter rotates and therefore not vignetiert. Canon has thought and if in the future the quality of materials grows with the intrinsic values, I am a candidate for a possible G14. Or do I wait, if the teething problems of the Nex-5 be fixed? But I do not know if I could be unfaithful for the G-Class, which I like and yet so everyday use; my everyday companion. Look forward to the photos of the G12; now even with sparse light.
