Whether the shooter can now compete with other high-end games of the genre or not, I'm interested in doing precious little. What was decisive for me in a positive (and for my review of the game), the following points are:
a) a compelling story in many parts, although it is of course fictitious and has partly a little too contrived.
b) a gloomy atmosphere, the first authentic acts hopeless, but then the ambition awakens in one.
c) Myron Faulk. The head of the XCOM is by its nature and the perfectly matched speaking voice (I play the English version) simply brilliant. I have rarely heard such a dry sense of humor and so laconic and rather unwillingly sarcastic comments.
d) even at medium details are still appealing graphics, which contributes much to atmosphere.
It was clear before buying it would not go here to collect, Techen and upgrading, so I do not mind the lack of these options also. Ultimately, one gets gradually its upgrades, which I think is actually almost realistic in view of the tight time frame within which the story takes place.
For fans of the game is entertaining entertainment thoroughly recommended - this would I necessarily play the English language version, because lost in my eyes otherwise a considerable part of the atmosphere.
