Some years ago I had the desire of Windows Tablets - unfortunately it was at that time, if at all, only the first iPad. Alternatively, it was ultra-portable notebooks and netbooks the first; Unfortunately, they were a little too big and slow, so you are quickly disappeared from my use.

The TrekStor - even if, at least in my eyes, the name suggests otherwise - here is a very satisfactory solution for all technology-savvy and "power users" delivered.

My claims / requests

It is the first Windows tablet in my possession. Previously I had div. IPads and Android tablets, which are mostly gone out of use because of non-use.
Background was always that it was "nice toys" - and for many people, the possibilities are also sufficient - as for games, casual apps and so on.
But I wanted to cover a specific application:
- At the customer "just" druchführen an IP scan via network cable
"Just" configure private, the telephone system of an acquaintance via COM / RS232 -
Draw wireless reception strength with the Ekahau HeatMapper tidy with Dämpfwerten in a map -
- A Windows device rumführen with me, with whom I "just" can test for function and hardware devices (mice, keyboards, USB flash drives, hard drives, etc. pp.)

Secondary stand with me the following points:
- Surfing read emails / write, edit documents
- Simple gamble, like older games
- ... Experience even know if the - meaningless tile UI on tablets leads to victory - on the Dekstop in my eyes

I myself am a computer, like tinker privately in this direction and I am as a service for customers on the go.

Performance offered price

At Christmas I wanted after I've flirted earlier with the Asus Vivo Tab, a tablet on Windows x86 architecture (not the ARM-Krams, but again any more runs on the applications desired by my then, as such I would treat an Android tablet) with Windows 8.1.

The Trekstor Wintron is 10.1, in my opinion, "thrown at" given the starting price of 200, that is to be regarded as very low.
The equipment corresponds to "most" / "all" Windows x86 tablets on the market, so the competition here, there are no large Breakaway - focus so you should put on processing and additional features.

With the 2GB Ram, the quad-core Atom and the fast flash memory to do so in advance nothing wrong - is so for almost all products have the same features. Since we deal with 200 quasi the "lower limit" move, and one quasi-effective for nothing like gets, I'm very happy - which it has for me a far greater value than an iPad (for 400 and above) or Android Tablet.

Equipment / Hardware

In short: The equipment is OK.
The small quad-core processor clocked to 1.7 Ghz diligent effort; that's not the world, but is sufficient for 95% of all applications. Those who actually ask for a little more processor power, react naturally hesitant - but that's not a problem, after all we are not talking of a Gamer PC with Xeon, but from an entry tablet, so far absolutely justifiable.

The main memory with its 2GB is "actually" undersized, 4 GB would have been sufficient for virtually every situation - but I have to say that I get along usually with 2 GB.
Probably I notice it sometimes not at all, because Windows outsources data to the flash memory - and because this is a bit faster than a regular hard drive, it is also landed quickly from Flash RAM.

The flash memory is, as has been said, quite fast on the road - which is also reflected in the boot time or when working with disk-intensive programs again. Benchmarks have indeed colleagues already posted.

The display is "good": It was made that it dissolves too low (1200x800) - again I speak this. The resolution is just right for the screen size; under normal use, I see no grid or individual pixels, and surf for it is "a minimum, a bit more", so can most websites display properly.
If I'm honest, I'm glad drum that it does not dissolve higher: Windows 8.1 comes by now well with higher resolutions deal and lets the UI scale - not most of the third-party applications, however, so they always "natively and small" are shown, as the Windows user interface. The falls have the Adobe Reader on - the higher the resolution, the more annoying it gets.
I have on my screen during boot unfortunately defective pixels (white pixels, with bright colors, they are not visible) must determine (left, bottom margin). Had I bought a monitor for 200, he would wg. the dead pixel declined. When Trekstor it is me, if I'm honest, no matter: They are seen only on dark backgrounds and have me a few days after the Erstauspacken noticed; so I can get over it.

General came to me at any time, the tablet "slow" or "sluggish" in the service before. Based on Windows 8.1 itself everything runs smoothly, without stuttering.
Applications such as Firefox, the easy start a bit slow on older / slower computers, do not come on the tablet and the best performance; It might take a little longer - but not interfere.

The ports / buttons

Keys: Could this notice anything negative / positive. They are there, they work, could similar defects find
USB host port: Works so far without problems. I noticed is that USB connector can not be so far inserted, as on a normal PC USB port; but works naturally anyway.
Audio jack: not tested so far.
Windows button at the bottom: works :)
Power connection: unfortunately is actually somewhat fragile; you should watch something, and not too much wiggle the plug / exert pressure, otherwise probably breaks the socket from inside.

microSD card slot: A little fiddly because the lid to be removed can not be put off, but in fact must be "levered". Do you usually ... but yes info only once: Could also the function with a 64GB Transcend microSD card confirm!

Housing: Well. It's true that Tablet is made entirely of plastic. It attacks well and "bend" visually only slightly if you compare it with two hands "winds", but the processing - at least for me - not 100% is a 1mm high plastic edge intermediate edge of the display housing. This is around evenly - down to the area of ​​the Windows key, as the display is projected at the same level as the plastic rim. Does not look so nice, but the function does not detract.

Heat generation / volume

Oh wonder, the fanless tablet is extremely quiet! :)
Should be noted, however, that a few centimeters left of the display center sits well the processor. This place is on the back noticeably warm during use
Negative me at this point is also noticed that some air between rear-case and the underlying components. If you hold the tablet normal cross, and with your fingers on the back of drumming something you realize how the case back to that inner components "strikes", is therefore not glued, etc.

Space

As mentioned in other reviews, is left "not much" space to install all updates. In my case there were also 20-18 GB of free space.
This Limitiation I knew in advance and have brought a 64GB microSD card from Transcend me therefore.
Programs I install as normal on the flash memory, so that they benefit from its speed - and data greater things I store on the SD card.
Useful here, btw, Folder Redirection. ie the music folders, pictures, documents, etc. on the SD card to bend (right-click on the folder of the Explorer -> Properties, tab "path").
Currently I have, with various applications (Firefox, Adobe Reader, seafile, OpenOffice, Java, ActiveX, etc. pp.) And two games (Age of Empires 2 + Heartstone) still about 10 GB free. if I can keep the level -> everything OK.

Sound * Update 21.12.2014 *

In a review of the issue was addressed Audio; I have been consulted by a few songs via YouTube and Spotify at different volume levels.
Basically, the volume from 40-45% does not seem to increase, the speakers distort then. From the volume still is it loud enough, for example, to make a little music while sitting on the couch (I would, however, even the built-in speakers of a TV prefer ...).
I am both the left and the right speakers "crackle / noise" noticed a in quiet passages that sounds different from a "background noise" of speakers. I do not know whether we speak of inferior speakers or audio controllers - probably both.
The Trekstor makes no superior tone that would have surprised me in the price range - with a few exceptions, the speaker of mobile devices but they are anyway not particularly bomb.
But also is not bad: Via Miracast, microHDMI or jack allows the sound transmitted digitally (in the first two cases) to eg a stereo system, or via Bluetooth to a BT speakers.

Battery life

I have done no battery life benchmarks; felt but we are talking with a "normal" use and low screen brightness (15-40%) of 4-5 hours.
This is a value that have hardly reached my previous notebooks - so I'm extremely happy with it. Of course this is not enough for a complete working actively use - but that it does not have with me.
For the meantime, or selective, prolonged work, the term is absolutely sufficient.

Touch operation * Update 21.12.2014 *

I'm already come into contact with more professionally ALLinONE PCs with touch display, so knew the Windows operation via touch halfway.
Basically, it works well - open about folders, move shortcuts or select menu items.
The smaller the dots that you want to touch, the more difficult it becomes natural. I always notice that, for example, when the tab titles of Firefox: Because it takes practice to meet the little "x" of the tabs.

What bothers me a bit, and I'm not sure if that is a problem on the part of the touch screen or from Windows:
1) I also use on the tablet, the Start button context menu (Windows key + X). Via Touch you have to right-click on the Start button, and strangely enough it does not work when one centrally executing it on the Start button. The rectangle that right-clicking symbolizes simply not appear. One has rather the "top right corner" of the Start button meet, and that's not easy to re-
2) In general, it seems to be on the edges of problems with the right-click / tap. Prefer eg a program from the tray bar (next to the clock) finish, one performs a right-click on it and choose "Exit". Unfortunately, I am indeed often to the context menu, the Tap "Finish" at the bottom but is usually swallowed.
One can help as follows: Finger on an overlying menu item until it is highlighted (blue), and then wipe down to "exit" point. The works appear in all applications and contextual menu's

3) Driver Update's
My tablet was probably around September 2014 rum produced (Date Review: 12/2014). On the Trekstor page there are no drivers to download (for which also reinstall the traditional method is not so planned ...), but there are more current Intel HD graphics cards and chipset drivers.
Property me this downloaded directly from Intel for the 3 generation of Intel processors (Sandy Bridge) and installed - Performance / Benchmarks I have not been performed; but we all know: new must actually be better :)

4) Who has the right to gamble with the tablet, probably comes to a separate mouse not around (it was the, the game is touch-optimized).
Age of Empires 2 can be, for example, "" only play with the mouse. A spanner in the works makes the Limitiation in Windows that the gestures can not be freely adjusted.
There is only the left click (single tap) and right-click (tap and hold), and for example, a two-finger tap "move" for example, of the position on the AoE card does not exist.
There are a few tricks for Synaptics touchpad notebook, the touch screen is not from Synaptics - and other approaches I could not find the net unfortunately.

5) Miracast * Update 21.12.2014 *
I happen to stumble on my new 55 "TV from Samsung have the" Screen Mirroring ", with which you can display the screen contents of mobile devices on the wireless TV.
After some reading I found out that the standard "Miracast" is, and is also supported by the Trekstor tablet.

I must admit that it took me half the evening to present the tablet image on the TV, maybe a short summary:
- I "had" to update the Intel graphics driver
- TV + tablet are located in the same Wi-Fi
- You choose the Samsung TV as a source of "Screen Mirroring"
- On tablet is wiped from the right Charmbar, selects there "Device" -> "Project" - "Connect wireless display">. Then open the PC settings and a search window pops up - here appeared eg my 55 "TV
-> Selects the unit. For me it has not answered 3x / answered be the 4th time hats works (with no apparent change)
-> Sometimes I could not at all connected to the TV, the tablet. After half an hour I once turned on the TV and again ... oh miracle, the first attempt it worked.

Once the connection was successful, I could also, for example, look at a few YouTube videos (the same on both devices, ie mirrored display - 720p). Basically, the picture on the TV was about time delay half a second, but ran smoothly - now and artifacts have surfaced, but rarely.
To quickly show the friends and family something, such as photos, always sufficient.
And toll: About Miracast also the sound of the TV is transferred, which is then automatically picked up from my Denon AV Receivers and output through the floor-standing speakers. Toll!

6) Windows 8.1 Pro + BitLocker * Update 02.22.2015 *
Since I now but rumschleppe some very important data on the tablet with me, I have a Windows 8.1 Pro license concerned.
The Windows 8 with Bing can even be "upgrade" in which you enter only the key - but this does not work via the "System".
- Tap From right to left wipe clean (Charm bar) and click Search
Enter "Features" and select the "Add Features to Windows 8.1" -
- There enter the Key - the Tablet rödelt a bit, restarts - and é voila ...
The encryption of the system partition works via BitLocker also uncritical and even relatively quickly. In tablet is well, although I was able to find anything, a TPM chip built in (which I had to prepare a password / USB flash drive).
In my current 10GB are occupied on the internal flash - the encryption took less than 10 minutes.

With regard to the Windows Store

Those looking for a tablet, for which there are 27 million apps, is better off with Apple and Android.
I for one do not care for the Windows Store if only latent; for me it is much more important to have a full-fledged x86 Windows in tablet form.
Although the proportion of touch-optimized apps for the store is small, it is a complete Windows-world opened to normal applications, which can be used mobile.

So if a tablet to play with and for casual work (someone call, surfing) examines who is better off with Apple & Co.
Who wants to do something "more" or "more specific" with his Tablet, should look at this Win8 tablet accurate.

From the Windows Store there have only eBay, Amazon and TeamViewer Touch managed on my Modern UI interface - "in between" to something more comfortable to look something up to for.

Conclusion

I give it 5 stars because I am absolutely satisfied for the price with the performance. Sure, in some areas, the tablet could finish better - processing & Co - but let's face it:
I admit prefer 200 for this tablet, and treat myself in 1-2 years a new one for 200, as my "to buy an expensive tablet long run" for. The bill is simply not on.
