Man on the Rocks (Limited Super Deluxe Edition) I know Mike Oldfield since the 1973 version of Tubular Bells and say to me, to know all his songs in a variety of variants. I have witnessed his war against Virgin and his trips as Michael Oldfield and am probably what another reviewer called as Oldfield purist. As such, I hear out his guitar amongst all other and also knew me as yet unknown pieces immediately who is at work there. I also got used to me, songs that I did not like at first hearing, two, three times nachzuhören. In the present case, however, did not help, at least in its original version. The voice of Luke Spiller is just simply boring and without any variation. Unfortunately I have guys like Roger Chapman, Maggie Reilly, Anita Hegerland and Bonnie Tyler in the head, and the mix of voices and instrumental pieces and the so typical guitar riffs (except on Moonshine, where you can at least begin to listen to the Oldfield guitar). All this I miss here, as well as a neoclassical piece in the style of 'The Wind Chimes'. I suspect that Oldfield wants to appeal to the commitment of Spiller a younger fan base and with the CD's 2 and 3, the purists looking to meet, where I have not listened. So I will take the financial risk and ordered the Limited Edition.
Addendum: I have the Limited Edition for 2 weeks at me and must say it is worthwhile! I particularly like the stricted Limited Edition CD with demo recordings, singing Mike himself. And 'Castaway' has become my favorite, especially the second half of the piece that contains a wonderful lead guitar. Gives me two more stars. And now I hope that this new CD Mike initiated a new tour.
