1. Handling
To date, there has still not managed to use the Surface 3 without instructions correctly in the docking station. It slides namely not - as usual - just from the top of the bracket, but you have the side panel of the dock pull apart with both hands, puts a tablet, pushing them back together. I think it's impractical, but that is more a minor complaint.
2. Unfortunately, no old monitors - main problem
The dock has only one mini-display port connection. Regrettably stand here and in most other companies I know still monitors with a DVI-D or HDMI connection. Unfortunately, there is for DVI-D no cheap adapter when high resolutions are to be used, therefore, in addition to the Surface and the dock a new monitor with mini DP was still due.
It's just incredible that Microsoft does not provide alternative ports!
Furthermore, for example, have Lenovo docking stations always connections for two monitors, as the slowly is becoming the standard in companies. Nope, Microsoft has a lousy DP port, referring to DP Dasy chain (there are world barely five monitor models that support this technology and if so, they are outrageously expensive. In order to connect a second monitor to either the Mini DP port on use Surface yourself or you can buy an external USB video card.
3. Power Supply
Unfortunately, the power plug of the Dock is not compatible with the surface, so you can not use for mobile use the included AC adapter. For other manufacturers that was always a useful function.
Conclusion
The Dock will work if one brings its periphery on all updated. For me, the two new 4K monitors and a USB video card, total costs were EUR 2,000. For the chef that's still okay, but in business comes as Microsoft never!
