Last winter (Paperback)

Customer Review

Last winter was the first novel I read Jean-Luc Marcastel, author that i had the opportunity to meet several times and japprécie lot. This is a dystopia published by Hachette Editions Blackmoon in their collection, which nest visibly on sale in paperback but you can buy pocket 7,90. And this is a book that i really appreciated!

The story takes place in the near future, in 2035. The Earth is plunged into an endless winter and a pine forest eating mans has emerged: The Malesève. This forest gradually nibbles cities and home to dangerous creatures It is in this icy world and unwelcoming that we author installs a character quartet in the center of France, Aurillac.
First of all there is Johan, certainly the most complex character in the book as he suffers dune sort of split personality. Thus, he shares his life with Raven. Johan is a young man rather ordinary but has suffered. When things get too hard emotionally, it leaves room for Raven, being a cold, impassive, without feeling. It took me some time to appreciate the character and mattacher Johan / Raven because Johan seemed too far away to be able to identify and Raven was too "inhuman" to be able to tie my. But Johan is also the character that evolves as in this novel and I finally enjoyed this very sensitive young man.
Theo's brother Johan. This is a soldier who broke his oath to return to protect his family. His nickname, Knight, comes from its behavior: it is a man of his word who protects the weak. It is a brave character, strong, loyal, faithful who hides a dark secret in him. At As we learn to know him but lapprécie instantly.
Fanny is the daughter of the group. This is a character that annoyed me sometimes but i learned to appreciate throughout the book. She is stubborn, loyal and brave. Jai liked what the relationship was with his brothers dadoptions.
As for Khalid, this is the "fun" of the group, the record book with humor. He is always there joking, trying to relax the atmosphere. We sattache very quickly to this character because of his choice: to leave to adventure with Johan leaving behind his girlfriend. I've had the feeling that the character cétait that sacrificed the most thing without this adventure.
Overall, the characters in this book are all well built and endearing. There are a small number of secondary characters that the author inserts As the book.

Debuting this book, I was surprised by the author of décriture style. I mattendais some-thing more classic. But the writings of Jean-Luc Marcastel is very poetic and I immediately captivated. This book is a reflection on humanity: the author is considering all possible behaviors in a situation that seems apocalyptic. Dictators, inhuman behavior, sects, religions barbarians but also the hope. The hope that despite the darkness that invades the Earth, it remains one hand dhumanité some share. That all men Nont not sink into madness and barbarism.
It does therefore not just a book Young Adult, it is a much more profound book than that, with a hopeful message.

Imagination of the author is overflowing! The ideas that he proposes are often amazing. We even wondered from where they come out! Jai still had a little regret at the implication of Malesève. It is clear that the Malesève is a living organism, an oppressive presence but we do not actually see the action. We discover the horrible creatures which houses but jaurais liked pines really work (except a scene, pine trees are there but not nattaquent)

After 300 pages, the story changes style. Author increases the degree Drafting and magic and offers us more adventures, more fighting. Jai liked this turn, which I no more disturbed than that. Jai thought it was going in the logic of things.
I found some elements of the end quite predictable. Thus, the fate of some characters but not surprised Mount Mount nonetheless moved.
The final conclusion although my smile because the idea is very original! (Spoiler: orcas idea is just great!)

Conclusion

The last winter is a novel that I found surprising and captivating. The ideas are original, well-constructed characters and endearing. The style is poetic and interesting history. This is not a simple novel Young Adult. The author has done a work of reflection to give us a novel built and results!
This book will captivate teenagers but also adults! Feel free to indulge yourself!
