I finished reading "Underworld USA" last week and I did not react to hot. Looking back, I confirm my first impression. This is unfortunately not good .... The first part of the book oscillates between great and poor, but the second is very boring (say the last 300 pages). I feel qu'Ellroy did not know what he wanted to tell where he wanted to go with this novel ... It is rather striking when analyzing the trajectory of his characters. Turnovers are inconsistent for most and the author has a tendency to get rid of them as if he did not know what to do. The discourse and policy analysis of this period is also more blurry. It lacks a common thread, a look, that was the strength of the first opus "American Tabloid". As for "The Cold Six Thousand" James Ellroy is lost in the ramifications of its history and the destinies. In this construction a spring wandering printing between important issues and other more anecdotal. And ultimately it is unfortunately anecdotal wins! I pass over the end (far-fetched and ridiculous strand) to question me about morality very politically correct book. This choice is surprising from Ellroy who had accustomed us to much less nervousness. Do the controversial author wanted to redeem himself from his critics and silence some critics who considered him a fascist dirty? Still, that with this choice, it becomes more consensual and less interesting shot. James Ellroy seems to have buried her dark side and, above all, has finally completed its monster trilogy that obsessed both (to the point of nearly 10 years before delivering the final volume). Who knows? This release may be synonymous with rebirth and then allow it to produce less ambitious novels, but most captivating for its players. In any case, "Underworld USA" is a real disappointment.
