I confirm what critics express professionals: there is no improvement in the gross picture, or even really visible between the 650D and 70D.
Understand that since 2008 digital sensor technology is mature, and thus for the same size of the sensor, the image quality is not better in 2013 than it was in late 2008. And it all plus marks.
The technical evolution of the camera is in other ways that the quality of the image. The increase in the numbers of pixels is only a marketing deal.
Besides the high-end reflexes that are the Canon 1D X (Tipa award for best professional DSLR in 2012) and 1D C has a 18 megapixel sensor only.
This photo special (kenrockwell.com/nikon/d80/images/examples/DSC_3875.JPG) was released as a Nikon D80 which has a 10MP sensor only
So the 70D, in the category of APS-C sensor, will not make better images (photos and videos) that 550D, 600D, 650D (aka 700D) and 7D.
Dual marketing trick gizmo thing makes no revolution in the practice of photography and just a little more fluid video when changing plans.
For enhanced image quality have to go to the full-size sensors (24x36) as the 6D and 5D and other 1D X / C.
So why buy a 70D today?
It is to date the general opinion of professionals having tried, the best DSLR by the compromise it offers. If you are new to the family of Digital SLR cameras, it is the most complete and seduce you on almost every level.
- If you have a camera in the series before the 550D.
- If you make a lot of pictures or videos action (sports, children, animals, etc.)
If you are a professional who wants a reliable and efficient emergency housing.
Why not buy the 70D?
You have a 7D or 650D, 600D, 550D (invest in the new series of STM objectives: light, ultra-quiet and fast)
You want the Full-Frame Quality (24x36mm) only 5D, 6D and allow 1D
You are only the video? Digital SLR (DSLR) are primarily pictures appliance, not camcorders.
What I like the 70D
Its touch screen inherited the 650D, perfect ergonomics and very pleasant.
Its very fast autofocus, especially video. But not really perfect, far from it.
It allows for RAW files to smaller dimensions (battery saving, file size and subsequent work, in short, faster)
Its rear wheel as all the high ranges (but why is it so small the 60D had a wider wheel as have other high ranges: 6D etc)
A more rugged construction even though, at this price, it is staggering to see that housing has a 100% plastoche!
As 7D without being sealed, it is protected from splashes and dust
Half cheaper than 6D and almost 4x cheaper than Eos Mark III.
its fast shutter: It pictures in bursts of 7 frames / second and can take at 1/8000 second! The 6D is only 1/4000
What I do not like
While plastic case (as the lower range, so not to leave hours in the sun)
No improvement in the quality of photos (or videos). A definition against 20.2 Mb 18 Mb little brothers only adds processing and photo files (thankfully we just work with a lower resolution)
One C for storing preferred settings. So one custom mode
the screen is not extinguished when the eye approaches the viewfinder! (The 650D allows)
Very power hungry as are the 650D / 700D
What is it higher than the 650D (aka 7OOD)?
the 70D is only a 650D better built with some additional options:
Best workmanship
Improved ergonomics
Display in the most complete optical viewfinder
Faster shutter
allows you to take pictures in RAW at lower resolutions
Autofocus very slightly faster video
Rear dial
Wifi (for those who like the microwave). I do not use it
Why is it worse than the 7D:
While plastic case
Slightly identical image quality (though the 7D only 18Mb)
slightly slower continuous shooting (burst) the 7D is 8 frames / sec
one C (custom programming! The 7D has 3)
Physical viewfinder covering only 98% of the sensor (the 7D covers 100%)
Like the 650D (700D) the 70D is very power hungry
the 70D is only a 650D better built, with some additional options. it is faster and more robust.
If a 7D even today is better, it has no touch screen.
Excluding Canon, its competitor to the Nikon D7100 makes better photos and videos but it has no touch screen (for English see the comparison of Michael Andrew on youtube).
In October 2013, the 70D is my super camera with the best compromise, there is no such beautiful pictures (videos photos) 5D mark an X, or 6D 1D X / Y. but the touch screen is a plus (thank you the 650D).
A camera aficionado, robust and fast, especially made for those loving sports photo, fast, or animal (although lower in 7D)
The almost best, alloy between the 650D and 7D. but nothing more.

Some who bought this kit, improving confuse the objective with that of housing.
This lens is excellent and much better than its predecessors. It is lightweight, fast and quiet! A must, even if you do not make videos.
650D users wishing to acquire this new series STM must ensure they have the firmware (firmware) 1.0.4 available on the canon website.
