It's the calm before the storm. After his big showdown with the Dark Lord Darth Vader is indeed missing, but Jax Pavan has no doubt that the man who once was Anakin Skywalker must have survived. In Vader's absence threaten Jax and his companions, however, lapsing into a threatening everyday routine, because the underground organization Whiplash is indeed stronger every day, but the attacks on the Whiplash leadership to take. To bring the whiplash leader Thi Xho Yimmon out of the firing line of Vader's minions has therefore decided to evacuate him from Coruscant and calling on the help of the Antares Ranger to complete. - An unexpected continuation -

The late period of the Expanded Universe had to offer some surprises, even if no major projects were more daring. In addition to John Jackson Miller novel KENOBI or Aaron Allston MERCY KILL (the latest sequel to the legendary X-Wing novels) and one day there was a sequel to CORUSCANT NIGHTS in the room with the fact no one had expected. Like many other works before the "end" of the EU also tried THE LAST JEDI still frantically to reconcile with the present canon and yet it was already clear that too much porcelain had been smashed. Jedi Master Even Piell died in THE CLONE WARS and not until years later in CORUSCANT NIGHTS. But Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff therefore developed no reservations about TCW but attempted in THE LAST JEDI involve even developments and locations from the Clone Wars in her novel and to connect with the rest of the EU. Only able to be labeled as Legends reconciliation efforts THE LAST JEDI not save it.

- But a Coruscant Nights sequel -

One should not be fooled by the lack of series title, because THE LAST JEDI is through and through a continuation of the already somewhat loosely connected Coruscant Nights trilogy. TLJ accesses the events go back to where they ended in PATTERNS OF THE FORCE. Vader is held by the rebels dead and Jax's pretty sure that Vader and Anakin Skywalker, and the same person. Kajin Savaros is a potential for Padawan Jax no longer an option and Inquisitor Probus Tesla cherishes an intense grudge against Pavan, who had him once again thwarted the plans.

- Premises -

Already PATTERNS OF THE FORCE was a collaboration by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff where Reaves co-author then still unnamed quasi acted as Co-ghostwriter. And so very different, the two novels are not now. Jax Pavan is the last Jedi and must once again ask the question, what does that mean for him and the future of his order.

If one already the skills Kajin Savaros seemed too far-fetched in PATTERNS, which should also be adjusted THE LAST JEDI that here quite fantastic will be done with the power. Visions of the future and the past, thinking how to manipulate the flow of time, so many things happen a although known from later settled book series and the capabilities Jacen Solo's, but TLJ plays in its own way with these ideas. Besides Jax Pavans Hader with his Jedi heritage, a gloomy prophecy and Darth Ramage's revelations, the book but also engaged again with Tuden Sals ambitions as a leading resistance fighters, revenge plans and pole house role in Whiplash network. These now come even I-Fives experimentation with new bodies, after its original chassis suffers an unpleasant end.

- Jax Pavan: Skywalker for the poor? -

Although Jax Pavan makes the world reproaches the darkness in Anakin Skywalker to have known, but those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Long stretches Pavan is indeed shown to be very confident of herself Jedi, but his own passions remain long time without reflection. Pavans affection for Laranth faded, his need to free the prisoners Yimmon and save the galaxy within its means make him a Wretched. Is Jax or else he will also make use of the knowledge of a Sith Lord to fulfill his greatest wish? After Jax has indeed the holocron Darth Ramage, he would have to find a way to open it.

- A Failed atonement -

The Black Sun dominates on Mandalore and Prince Xizor is attending. When trying to connect with the old EU TCW has probably voluntarily into hot water and a downfield pass delivered to justify the expulsion of the book from the canon also, only it was not quite as intended.

THE LAST JEDI at least read me rather unsatisfied as experienced Star Wars fan back and the more time between the publication and my review is, the less impressively seems to me this work. It was a story as it was believed to have read somewhere once before and it could be a story that we in coming years could get presented again and again in a different form.

2013 allowed the EU and TCW attempt to reconcile even a milder approach. 2014, we know, however, the continuation of the open end, it will not come and the new Jax Pavan and Ferus Olin is Kanan Jarrus. This makes the novel similar to the THE LAST OF THE JEDI Youth books to a possible source of inspiration for the Rebels or Kanan Comics, but detract from its importance. In places reminded me THE LAST JEDI also provide not only because of the similar title to the said youth book series, because Ferus Olin was a former fellow student Anakin Skywalker and had to the question whether he would not have the obligation to Jedi Order to rebuild.

- Summary -

A year ago I would have given 3.5 stars nor the book and probably rounded up to 4. After the old Advanced universe was terminated, however, all the old stories are no longer binding and Coruscan Nights is tends to get in the way of new stories about the same era falls my judgment now of less conciliatory. In an era as Legends novels must be distinguished by their possible impact on the new canon or excellent stories THE LAST JEDI just falls through. The story is "nice" and asks some humorous scenes with I-Five, and a still somewhat unpredictable plot (in which everything and everyone indeed could a hero's death), but it gets stuck in my memory just nothing outstanding. The only exception is just now the memorable prophecy of Jax Pavan.
