Echoes from the Gorge, subtitled A Percussion Quartet (1989) is sometimes described as the 'most significant work of its author. The starting point could be ionization, of course; Echoes from the Gorge but appears to be primarily the reminiscence of a ritual music (you push the door of a temple), and the equivalent sound of these rocky cliffs lost in mysterious clouds that so inspired Chinese artists, 'painters and poets. Undeniable success. Yün (1969), for all impregnated with Taoist philosophy, refers to the idea of a merger of the individual and of the universe. Windswept peaks (1990), "double duo" for violin and cello, clarinet and piano, in a Western language, stripped of all scenic element (Chou approaches here Schoenberg), evokes both steep peaks, and strength domestic Chinese intellectuals, other "windswept peaks" if abused in ancient and recent history of their country (see according to the author himself, the Tiananmen events in 1989). A disc and a composer of the most endearing, a little-known chapter in the history of contemporary music.
