Desire vs Onex

HTC ONE X Smartphone (11.9 cm (4.7 inch) LCD touch screen, 8 megapixel camera, Android OS) dark gray (Electronics)

Customer Review

After almost 2 years with my old HTC Desire I wanted to treat a new smartphone again. Since I was very pleased with the Desire broadly, it should be a HTC again. As the One X was unveiled at the MWC early March, the successor was found with it. After a week copious test now my first preliminary conclusion.

Size:
At first I was not sure if 4.7 inches is not yet are a bit too big for your hands and your pocket. The Ur Desire has to offer only 3.7 inches here. The initial skepticism but extremely fast, because the size is not a problem at all, on the contrary. The phone fits nicely into any of my jeans pockets and by the size of it revolves now no longer cross, what happened to me constantly with the Desire. The cross turning the Desires in his pocket had then invariably also means that the inputs off button was constantly pressed and thus the display was constantly activated and thus the battery life was reduced. Operate leaves it with my smallish hands men also handed well.

Display:
The next thing stands out immediately in his eyes is the brilliant display of the One X. This really is absolutely razor sharp and the colors appear to be exaggerated extremely alive without. Here the Desire can not even keep up with the approach. The readability under sunlight is much better than the Desire the One X.
However, there are 2 small criticisms:

- The brightness of the display can be adjusted for my taste too little down. Even on the lowest level, the display is in normal illuminated offices still absolutely perfect readable. But if I would like to read in bed at night one or two items, a further turn down would be quite possible. If you consider that the display for about 50% involved in the battery consumption, incomprehensible but bearable.

- The second point of criticism. Every now and then flickers the light of the display somewhat. For this purpose there is in various forums, however, already some entries. That seems to be a known problem that probably but could not fix with a software update to. Since the flicker at me very weak and rarely occurs, I can also cope well.

Processing:
The processing of the One X is absolutely first class. Here I have nothing to complain about. Everything fits perfectly, and the gaps are fine. I also find it very good that HTC now relies on a closed system without replaceable battery. The reason is easy to explain. When Desire is collected very quickly dust under the battery cover on, which also led that the camera was full of dust and even worse pictures than it already supplied. Those who think absolutely not being able to get along without replacement battery, let me tell you that there are now a large number of external batteries that help out just fine in an emergency. So what many see as a point of criticism, namely the closed system, I find rather positive, because thus the housing also could be made more compact.

Battery:
Now at runtime. And here I was really surprised but really positive. Giant Display and quad-core with reasonable life? Can it work? The answer is short and sweet, so it works very well. I would call myself a heavy user and use the device to surf at least for 2 hours a day, an hour with any apps, 50 SMS per day (count as received thereto) and calling something. My Desire had partly already by 15 clock back to the wall socket, as the One X is still 40-50% of battery. Thus, I come with this phone finally time an entire day without power through. The Desire almost impossible.

Charging time:
In my test it took almost exactly 3 hours to the One X from 0% - has been charged to 100%. Have it to really completely empty played. Ansich a somewhat high value, but the battery is not a problem really strong and overnight.

Standby:
Why has this issue separately receiving a reason. Here is also extremely surprised myself the One X. The One X consumed per hour just one percent of battery capacity with activated WiFi. Thus you would on a standby value of 4 days! This long duration is probably actually the Tegra 3 materialize because the 4 cores are put to sleep in standby and just another fifth current parkers working.

Sound:
The sound was always more of a problem with HTC. The Desire has a tinny speakers and the telephony was indeed ok, but far from good equipment. Here is a lot better in the One X. Here one has really caught up with the competition. The speaker sounds good to my ears and telephone conversations sound much cleaner. But I would argue here the One X offers rather only good standard fare, but perfectly adequate to me.

Performance:
Let's talk about performance. This is sublime thanks to the quad cores so far beyond any doubt. Stuttering I notice no longer as good as ever. Websites are built in a split second and when scrolling web pages small defensible stuttering are perceptible even in complex pages. Anyway, I'm thrilled. No comparison to the HTC Desire. With the Desire it was partly to drive a pain specific pages, the One X is browsing at all times a true delight!
Even installing apps going in no time in a few seconds.
(WLAN, mobile):
Again, I appreciate the One X in both disciplines better than the Desire a. This assessment I win by I compare the reception beams of both phones Alike. Here, the One X indicates increasing. Apps can I download via WiFi on the One X with just under 3 MB The second. Here, the WLAN module seems to work well. It is also so that the One X is connected in some places with UMTS, whereas the Desire GSM offers only.

Heat generation:
Because there are some people who are interested in the heat, I am writing this even a few lines. When charging the battery, the device is hardly noticeable warm. Even when time surfing and a little play around in the cell phone apps can just be so lukewarm. If you, however, plays elaborate games, the device is still quite warm beneath the camera. But as I also have an iPod touch and possess this still much warmer while playing, if not even hot, I'm not worried.

Camera:
Since I'm not a big photo specialist, I would not lose too much about it. Only so much that the camera is worlds better than the Desire and the camera technically only partially fit for it, (etc. Disco) to shoot in a dark room photos. Here also helps the bright LED light fittings only modest, partly blurred. So as a party Knipse only limited use. It is however said that the photos, of course, are good for my taste in daylight.

Negatives:
Of course, no product is perfect and in addition to the problems with the display I have a few more minor criticisms.
- Every now and then the browser crashes completely.
- If the browser crashes, also sometimes adopted the Sense interface, which was then but so far always reloaded after a few seconds.
- I have noticed that not every finger pressure is detected on the keyboard. By AutoCorrect the result is right but most of it. Here it should be mentioned that the AutoCorrect also again working a lot better than the Desire.
- The status LED you can probably blink only green, but this does not work reliably with WhatsApp and alternative SMS programs. This worked at Desire better.

Conclusion:
All in all, a very successful smartphone that I hope will bring joy for a long time. So I can send my Desire good conscience retire! Since HTC has indeed announced a change of course for this year, and no longer want to bring out as many devices, I hope so strong that you can then increasingly focus more on software update for the few devices located. Thus, I still hope that my negative points, can be corrected by software updates.
