Incredible and preposterous but also very successful

Wheeler, the fifties, is the hero of this novel, he lived in the US in 1988 and is found in Vienna in 1897, suddenly. A city that his mentor at Harvard described him with delight, for he and all ranks elsewhere. It is in this book to time travel, but it is not a work of science fiction, it is a romantic work, which combines history, duty and love.
I must admit that in some passages, I wondered where the author wanted to take us, because we had alternating moments "present" of 1897, the actions that take place when Wheeler was young, and when to Other characters were young, like his father, for example.
What also baffled me was that Wheeler could meet his father in Vienna, also happened by magic, in addition to his grandmother, who was in Vienna at the time. But come to the end of this story, we can appreciate all the intrigue and the masterly way in which the author comes out of this good time.
What makes the story even more extraordinary is that Wheeler was a gifted baseball to also become a renowned guitarist and arrived in Vienna, he manages to find the money, he met Freud and people of high society vionnoise. It was the best anywhere, and it became my very annoying and too improbable eyes. Fortunately the author has been able to bring other elements that make the main character and the very endearing side.
What's more, the book addresses the themes of introspection, incest and rape, and the historical side it shows us the hidden side of the landing of 1944. That alone !!!
Long enough to read the book (600 pages) but very successful.
