I will not say more on this story, what's going on in this book. It is for you to discover. What I can say is that the percussive elements of the book hurt us, we are crying, but they make us laugh too! The novel vehicle different themes, each more poignant than each other. Tolerance, self-acceptance, the desire to live in the moment, trials that life can sometimes put in our way, the way that we have to overcome or let engulf them.
"Our hidden faces" is a book that takes guts because of the story that is told us, but also because of its absolutely beautiful characters.
Fern is a young 18 year old girl intelligent, gentle and kind. She is physically quite banal and actually a large complex. However it does not feel sorry for herself, and displayed a zest for life, a positive foolproof. Fern is very close to his cousin Bailey, an incurable disease.
Bailey is my favorite character. Because of his illness, he developed a view of the world and the people that is beautiful. He fights every day for him, for Fern to her family and to the people he loves. It beats even if he knows that is fatal and near.
I also fell in love Ambrose. Despite its popularity, there is someone humble and good. His return to war will change forever (both physically and mentally) and I loved the view rebuild (even if it goes through horrible times) partly alongside Fern and Bailey.
"Our hidden faces" is a novel in which the relationships between the characters are unconventional; they are friendly, love or family.
The pen Amy Harmon is superb, she carried me right away. The author made me go through a myriad of emotions (joy, sorrow, indignation, anger ...), causing me to sometimes spend smile to tears in two or three pages. Besides the beautiful narrative passages, I found that there was not a single empty dialog direction. Every word in a place. Some passages are very sad to the point that I cried for a quarter of an hour. However, at no time I found that the author was falling into melodrama. I do not know exactly how to explain my feelings. Amy Harmon makes beautiful tragic, and sometimes even funny. This is simply superbly written!
In conclusion, "Our face down" was a huge crush on me. This novel is more than a romance, it is a true gem, a life lesson. I fell in love with this story and these characters. I have not closed the book unharmed, and this book continues to me "haunt".
