Sound & Color (Audio CD)

Customer Review

So you've done it again: The Alabama Shakes are a band for which sound attributes were as organic and analog invented here humming the tubes, smacking the relay, feedback, distortion and noise are welcome sound components that are elsewhere weggebügelt eagerly. Actually, it would have to drive every blush, the satisfied here with the naked download, because if it would have required ever an argument for the good old vinyl, it is a record like this. Elegance, perfection and brilliance are not arguments, with whom we ultimately need to fours from Athens, and sound and color crunches, squeaks, crashes and whistles at every corner and so seems like a large boiler that maintain the pressure with difficulty under the lid can. Drunter simmers a fairly explosive mix of roots rock, electric blues, funk and soul, a dozen songs between border areas and the listener does not have to be ashamed to follow it all with rolling eyes, his mouth wide open and splayed fingers of sound forces to expressive movements, keeping still completely impossible.

Quite amazing what the just barely thirty years of guitarist and producer Blake Mills the Alabama Shakes still could elicit on reserves: Dont Wanna Already Fight pumped full of suspense and this certainly very now time, Gimme All Your Love then is the wacky, passionate Percy Sledge in a kind weird version, first as roughen RnB, later beat and lots Schmackes. Brittany Howard's voice travels always at the top or bottom limit, supported by a powerful Background group, a little Prince, a little Outkast, always on the attack. Later notch swaying Motown Soul (Guess Who) and punky garage rock (The Greatest), the 60s and the 70s are mortgaged in equal parts and also the angry complaints of Miss You and Morricone guitars at Gemini has naturally anywhere ever heard. They do many things and what they do, they do (usual) well. Call it super retro, ultimately, the name does not matter as long as it makes them and us such a fun. mapambulo: blog
