What is a successful life? (Paperback)

Customer Review

The philosopher proposes a reflection on the successful life-and thus fortunately not without interest. The style is clear and the will of extension is successful even if the last part is more difficult.
Place cornerstone in this trial "currently Nietzschean" is not spurious one hand because this philosopher has "exploded" God and in the field of "praxis" of our "modern" world can say that his influence is pregnant ..... for better or for worse, depending on the political interpretations of power. And everyone can not make his life an art aeuvre.
The approaches of the thought of the Greek philosophers and Christian stéoriologie are also interesting. The resonance of the first is evident in our current desire to find an alternative to the suicidal materialism in which the market economy of the so-called "invisible hand" (a God economist?) Supposed to regulate our desires. And the thought of Aristotle in particular is well summarized here. For seconds, the gospels show us a path to happiness that is not here and now, but that can be acquired by applying some "commandments" to our life here on earth. It is a matter of faith, so irrational, despite the intellectual efforts of Thomas Aquinas to reconcile faith and reason. And reflection presented on heteronomy concepts and autonomy is interesting because leading ethics and secular foundations. It would have been interesting to look most current theologians and their reading of the Gospels that give us a way "practice." (See: JY Leloup).
The conclusion remains ...... Ferry student does not really involved in the response to the original question. This is unfortunate, and we can explore the successful life is to become Minister of State. Why not?
The proposed perspectives bring nothing really new compared to the old Eastern Wisdom of thousands of centuries. The god-man is the epitome of Buddhist philosophy and finally back to a rather cosmological vision of the human condition.
Living the moment with intensity .... (for praxis refer to the Dalai Lama Eckhart outcry or Matthieu Ricard). This is an asceticism not to let the mind pollute by spells of the past and the anxieties of the future. From experience I can say that this is an interesting way to being fully in what we do. Easy when you share a fun time with friends. But sometimes the moment is unbearable (loss of a loved one, physical pain). And we can not say that Western man "Nitzschéen" is really prepared for these tests.
After, love love .... Of course .......... This theme is beautifully developed in Comte-Sponville in his "Short treatise of the great virtues" with these three aspects: eros, philia and agape. The secret of happiness is there, no doubt .... Except those who will never know it. But God (yes, I say GOD!) That it is difficult to love the other with its flaws and especially to love yourself, "sine qua non" condition for access to otherness. The author brings into careful not to confuse "ego" and self-love.
Again (as with Comte-Sponville) I am astonished oblivion author of the humanist otherness as Levinas or Ricoeur.
As a caregiver (and care convenes ethics and also non -qu'on it or spirituality), the writings of the latter seem to me essential. If faith is endangered (killed by Nietzsche and knowledge ("theoria") scientific) remains ethics. The only hope for the layman to create a favorable environment for "living together". Defined in Ricaeur as "under the good life with and for each other in just institutions" (definition that mixes Christianity and Marxism for the best!), Can be a key to happiness for a lifetime the less happy, if not successful.
Because ultimately, it is questionable whether the initial question of interest. Is not the ego, denounced by the author (whose eastern wisdoms, but also Christian, show that it takes distance themselves) who talks when you think of a successful life? After all, no matter once dead. Whatever the success of our children, seeing how little influence we have during our lifetime? One happy moment it does not supersede you years of misery? What skills do we have for happiness? Some justice in this case! Is it better to be a cynical nihilist or a happy believer? What is the real part of our free will?
Despite the data tracks in this highly recommended book, you will find more answers in stories that have little or mentioned here, but for me, who am not a philosopher or ethicist, are found in the music of Bach in the writings of Shakespeare, the poems of Rimbaud or Baudelaire, the "madness" of Artaud or Van Gogh?
In conclusion, there is no need to read this book to be happy, but still ..... it helps !!!!
