The alarm clock is relatively heavy (180g with batteries), has a fairly broad base with rubber feet long and will not tip over so easily! The display is a good size and super read with 75 x 50 mm; at least as long as the alarm is on par or below eye level (LCD viewing angle). The operating instructions are written easy to understand.
Commissioning is simple as possible. Set the language on "EN" and wait for the DCF reception (or set manually for the first time). Inside the battery compartment I've turned the permanent display lighting. That's just great: over a fairly sensitive light sensor the display in the dark is so minimally lit, that it is on the one hand to read, on the other hand does not interfere in his sleep! The mechanical slide switch for alarm activation like this Awakened is logically time and fortunately not overly loud, but with 4 repeating at 5 minute intervals, thus a total of 5 times alarm within 20 minutes. Addendum March 2015:
If the backlight is turned on with brightness sensor, so the battery life is directed primarily to the light at the location of the alarm and, ultimately, how many hours per day the illumination is active. In very rough cut, a set of alkaline batteries keeps 1/2 to 1 year. Meanwhile I run our two alarm but uncomplaining with Eneloop batteries. Even in moderate light in winter keep the batteries for several months. I like that.
