Apple has made the iPad the first step, the Group has with its lock-in strategy for me but totally unacceptable and the patent battle against the competition does the rest. But why the other computer manufacturers about 1 1/2 years unable are only approximately equivalent product to bring to market is beyond me. Most Android tablets have been at least one serious drawback. All Tablets without UMTS module you do not have to watch for mobile use. All 10-inch tablets are too heavy for 1-hand operation. Since begins after a few minutes the hand to ache. You have to put the pieces so, on the table, on the thigh. Since it has a hard time when you stand in a crowded bus. Also: why 10 inches, if you do see "only" 1280x800 pixels. 10 inch with 1920x1080 would make sense, but as yet no manufacturer dares turn. 7 Inch Tablets usually have only max. 1024x600 resolution. You have to constantly scroll cross. On edge ranging from 600 pixels hard to represent an entire page.
And since the little-known Chinese manufacturer Huawei is calculated and therefore builds the first practical mobile Android Tablet.
+ Processing and feel are very good. Since wiggles and twists anything and it is very comfortable to hold. The weight is 395g with just so that you can keep a long time in a single source.
+ Finally a 7 inch model with 1280x800! Text and icons are very small, clear. But if that do not mind getting a great information density and can be e-books and newspapers (eg the Süddeutsche via Kindle app) read excellent.
+ The connectivity is very good. WLAN, UMTS and a USB port are present and functioning largely well (see below).
+ The service is invariably liquid. No locking, no hangers.
+ Connections are plentiful. In particular, the Micro-SD card slot is very positive and can ignore the weak internal memory capacity of 8GB.
+ Price / performance ratio is outstanding.
o the battery is just so adequately. In the morning half an hour on the bus to read during the day every now and then to look something up, surf in the evening, read, watch videos. The specified period of 6h is realistic (and was also confirmed in tests) but is in everyday life rather scarce. A long day of traveling on business would not survive with me the battery.
o cameras are useful only for video calls. The rear camera is useless. But who already used a tablet as a camera?
- The screen responds - especially at the edges - rather sluggish. Since I have to confirm the other reviews, unfortunately. Since it may be quite possible that two or three times before you press the system responds to the same place. But I've gotten used to it and can handle it. No Killer, but in the long run very annoying.
- If you can turn off to save power when the wireless standby (WLAN sleep policy: If the screen turns off), can often no longer connect the device with reconnection to the Internet. Apparently, the setting of the gateway loses. Very annoying. Work-a-round wireless standby guideline: Never. This somewhat shorter battery life.
- Linux, the device can not respond as USB Mass Storage Device. So USB only under Windows with its own driver. What shoud that?
General to Android: there is a vast amount of apps for every task. Because the platform has rapidly gained ground and there is in my opinion no reason for lack of software to avoid Android. I could get everything up and running, what was important to me. For example, I synchronize my eGroupWare server using the CalDAV and CardDAV sync apps and it works well. You can access Samba shares, there is SSH client, UPnP client, even a Keepass-porting and thousands of nice gadgets.
Conclusion: Buy recommendation, if you're looking for a mobile Android tablet.
Note: this review was originally 5 points after two weeks testing. After 3 months, but some problems have become obvious and thus I have a point deducted. But the overall effect is still good and the buy recommendation I express continued. Although now with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is launched and so far Mediapad dwarfs. But you compare prices! Also, there is still the procured by Apple sales ban on Galaxy Tabs in the German market, where we are again in the initial criticism of Apple ...
