I have the Western Digital hard drive in mid-October put on me, because I back daily large amounts of data between computers and has to procrastinate. As my old external hard drive had given up the ghost, I now had to choose a new one. In this environment, the products are indeed usually quite similar, so I looked at the price, rather than the quality when buying a little more. For 75 euros, there is really nothing better. A Terra Byte is really already enormous, ranging from well only once to store all existing data there. Although there are 1.5 TB hard drives, I decided for this so as not to overdo it. As I said, the price was very important to me. The 1.5 TB drive can be better used as a backup disk for the video collection.
An important quality criterion met this hard drive: it is very quiet. I've used some external hard drives and had actually always bothered me to the noise they make, especially when data is written. Accordingly, I was pleasantly surprised also that this hard drive is quieter than my laptop. I can therefore also easily start overnight to perform instance backups, that anyone would be bothered doing without.
The connection is very easy, as no input or switch exists. Just plug in the USB cable and off you go. The small LED will turn on and you can already start with a very good speed to copy data. Because I need the hard drive for mobile applications, the speed is also very important for me, because I often do not feel like waiting times when copying data have. Even if I leave switched on for days the hard drive and move a lot of data from A to B, I realize no rise in temperature. Another advantage for mobile use is the low weight. With 1.2 kg it weighs a few hundred grams less than comparable products.
The design is a matter of taste. There is a black plastic box. No more and no less. But to convince only the functionality for me, I think you can neglect this factor. The design plays with computer accessories even a major role and is used as a selling point, but it does not always have to be beautiful. For the price you can really accept that you get no super styled by fashion product.
All in all, I can only express an absolute buy recommendation. The value for money is very good. The quality also convinced.
