Having 2 WD 4TB red, it was a shame to use USB directly, because no tollerence fault, and this is the galley for use on Mac and PC since a mac can not write on NTFS natively.
So I cracked on buying a synology because although some features are buggy (ntfs rights assignment on windows in a large volume of data of tens thousands of files), use in home, there really is not much fault in him.
The CPU is cooled passively, HDD caddies have anti vibration plastic, and can easily replace drives for installation without tools, and no unnecessary door like on lower-end models such as 214 ds / play. ..
Compared to my DS712 +, performance is close, which is not bad. No need to buy the ds713 +, which costs 50% more expensive and which offers exactly the same features. The most powerful CPU on the ds713 + is useless because it eventually would serve as the video conversion, but when you buy a nas two bay 450 was necessarily a machine next to which server pffice and can easily convert videos to volley and much faster than a poor atom.
In short it is a great nas that exceeds 100MB read-write of large files, and it is a very good level of perf.
The nas makes little noise, and integrated 3 USB ports are fast enough. I managed to make transfers usb-> nas has 75MB / sec.
The only bémole is that a remains an expensive machine, but given the rates on record, it's worth it. The more compact boitiernest the MicroServer and not need to do an acoustic chamber.
