I honestly do not see the relation between the emotion generated by these two concertos of Mozart and the accidental death of the Romanian pianist. If it were enough to push down the stairs any virtuoso after recording to give more emotion to the music, the recipe would certainly have been adopted since by many unscrupulous talent agents.
On the front cover of the CD it says "rubato of Haskil is breathtaking in its combination of freedom and control." I recall that the word comes from the Italian rubato rubare means stealing and stealing (even time) is not good, especially for a Romanian!
Good facts date back more than fifty years, so there has prescription. Both concertos are wonderful and I can not say why without falling into the usual platitudes symptomatic classical music reviews.
Mozart is so sublime that even when I played (badly) at the piano the theme of romance Concerto No. 20, it's still beautiful! So ... by Clara Haskil
