I have 2 WD Elements 2TB as backup disks about 2 months in use. One of them now has obviously an error in the USB field. The computer logs too high USB power voltage plate and no longer even recognized very hot. As these plates are not as with other manufacturers (Seagate, Toshiba) interface and an additional SATA / USB Converter consist of a panel with standard SATA, but the USB port is located directly proprietary to the plate board, you can not drive Connecting to other HDD enclosure , Annoying is also that it lt. WD also is not possible to simply replace the defective board, because the hard drives have a built-in data encryption, the key is gecodet individually in the respective board. Moreover, I would also not recommend using USB 3 flat plugs / sockets for portable drives - these usually hold not many male / Aussteckzyklen. Other manufacturers (eg Medion) therefore also use the large, stable 3 USB plugs / sockets.
In terms of hardware conditions, the plate is not a good investment, particularly in terms of data security. Would recommend to anyone so.
