The novel The Giver, written by Lois Lowry, published in 1993, deals with Jonas, the twelve year old protagonist, who is selected to be the new Receiver of Memory in his community, the most honorable assignment. He lives in a "perfect" world, having many friends, everyone being good educated, organized and controlled in Their Life. Jonas, who is in training, Arranged of the "The Giver of Memory" (title of the novel), finds out more about the secrets and "Elsewhere", Which Can Be Compared To our world, Regarding the Pain, love, and all The other feelings, facts are new for Jonas. At the end Jonas tries to find "Elsewhere", and gets to know feelings, colors and family, and finds out, why They had been abolished in Their Community.
My first expression:
First I liked the book, it starts Directly, having an open beginning, what I like very well. I liked the idea of the book, with its modern world, where everybody is equal, where there's no discrimination and everybody is "happy". (If it's possible?) Lois Lowry has a very nice writing style, expressing the suspense, asking ourselves what it Means for us, having no feelings and no own character. It's one of my books onliest did I really read on and even wanted to read it on. (Until the half)
While reading impressions:
Reading the first chapters I liked the book, but When all the memories were Mentioned Again and Again, it Became boring. It was just the opposite of my first impressions. (That's why I only gave 3 stars.) So I did not liked the ending. If you'll read the book, you'll probably imagine search to ending, Because it's the only possible ending, That could happen. It was seeking a "losing of suspense", did it even more boring Became, than You Could Imagine.
All in all I would like to say, did the central idea of the novel is very successful, modern and recommendable. But that's just one hand, the other hand is boring and not recommendable.
So, if you like suspense, you'll hate the book. If you like modern ideas, you'll love the book. If you'll like English book or novels, you'll love it. If none of this points is yours, leave your finger away of this book and search for a better one.
