The Young Elites (A Young Elites Novel, Volume 1) (Hardcover)

Let's face it, the cover is not really the Upper Burner. I was at least a little disappointed already and thought for a while there would be a placeholder for Goodreads xD but after reading and going to see the Dagger Society I understand why it has opted for the dagger and the lettering as a motive. The title fits like the Faus in the eye, because you do not have to argue about it: P

Opinion

With THE YOUNG ELITES Marie Lu has created an interesting story, which did not exist in the form. One can definitely not be regarded as setting dystopia, rather like a kind of high fantasy world. The first comparison that came to me was definitely the Grischa world. The author has developed proper names for places, events and all the action, so that there are not many overlapping parallels with our world there. In those countries there is a royal family and the citizens are partly divided into rich poor / layers. From the atmosphere I also had the feeling that everything was an Asian / Japanese touch, especially the names of many characters and many descriptions of the city or villages have me right here conjured such flair.

After Bloodfever many people have died because the disease has caught and killed especially adults. Many children have emerged from her with scars and marks, such as. Strange hair colors or characters that have been burned into the skin. These survivors are Malfetto called. From the Company considers as abnormal people who have a hard Malfetto. Then there are special Malfetto, those supernatural gifts have developed. They are rare, but they are there and they call themselves The Young Elites.

Our protagonist Adelina has only one person who means something to her, and that's her little sister Violetta. The father of two is violent and self-centered and abused both daughters, as it suits him. Especially Adelina suffers his behavior because it is valueless in his eyes. Initially Adelina tells the story of how she ended up in her cell. You shall die, because Malfetto be publicly burned by the king. However, this does not happen, because she is rescued by the leader of the Elites Enzo The Reaper and hey presto we are in history. Adelina learns that there are others like they are and the gifts of the Elites are far from harmless. Our heroine is trained there and sees that a new life is ahead of her. The whole idea of the novel, I found cool properly. Although you know here again so some items or abilities, but Marie Lu made woven super into something original and Custom.

Especially in the early days of the novel you will not obsessed with information, but you get everything shown and experienced first-hand how the world and life composed there. The book has an incredibly well thought out plot that remains steadily at the red thread, but still has a lot of tension and turning that entertained one. Just like in its Legend series Marie Lu has again Action combined with logic and created a scene that was just cool. From the first to the last page I was captivated by the story.

After the hype surrounding the book although I had plenty of high-rising expectations, but disappointed they were only minor, was The Young Elites for me no 5 star book, but only for your entertainment. But I see so much potential in just about everything that I know it can only get better! Especially towards the end it was incredibly fast and had the epilogue is really something.

Adelina is a protagonist that I found very successful. It is not our typical heroine when she also passes through such a transformation. From helplessly strong and courageous, and thanks to many doubts at times to the beginning back. Adelina has a dark side, which is fueled by their talent only and it exceeds more than just a border, is far from being a good person. There were a few scenes in the novel, who have demonstrated: you can destroy everything. Here I mean not only the manipulation of relationships, betrayal and hatred, the author has created here a character that is partially unstable and makes big mistakes. Nevertheless, I found this interesting as never before, because the hardness of Adelina she can be distinguished from all others. Thanks to many flashbacks you get to know other sides to her and the balance I found really succeeded.

Then of course there * cough * a love story between Adelina and Enzo. I regret to say that the chemistry between the two has not always voted. What I found especially around the middle, the counter brought feelings a bit unrealistic when the romance between the two could be damned dark and sexy. Personally, I would have found something better if I had more Enzo liked.

My biggest complaint about the book is that is that without exception, all figures beside Adelina were incredibly pale. Your code name was cool, yeah, and also their gifts and live together, I liked it, but I never had the feeling that it would be much behind its facade and Enzo I found this very unfortunate for special reasons. Nevertheless, my sympathy has not really done an abortion, was bored most of the time eventually lost. The opponent of the Elites, I found a bit annoying at times, but anyway. What I also accounted for as a criticism was the changing perspective. I understand why that was so perfect at the end, but in between there were chapters from the perspective of all possible characters and something I do not like it.

Conclusion

With THE YOUNG ELITES Marie Lu is a good start to an exciting series succeeded was used in the further potential and is visible. Especially the original setting and the gifts of the Elites were made really cool and Adelina as protagonist could often win me over. Tension, mystery and lots of conflicts together. A solid story, when I now look forward to the sequels!
